TR: Da Loaf - EC on Friday

Some sick stuff lately. This is what it is in all my 30postnewbiejong status. It's hard to take pictures of yourself looking cool in a whiteout, but this is my EC TR here. Hit the loaf on Friday and tried to use my Q phone to snap the day which was going to be solo.......

Decided to leave at 12:45AM thurday night from portland. Hit the back of lot 3:30 and finished half bottle of crown royal. Slept in my ford.

Woke up at 7:00. Cold! Start Car. Some guy pulls in and see's my snowed in car with the tailpipe blowin so knocks on my window. I roll it down to say I'm up and just warming up. Walk up to lift to be second chair and he's the guy in front of me.

Jonuski is the name. After first ones down a groomed skidder with all the fresh on it (never happens) we meet up again and decide to hike up to the top of the mountain via binder. Good way to meet a guy. He's in double knee braces and around 45.

we were going to go out to the backside. The wind sounded like a jet engine and backside was a complete whiteout. That snow all stuck though.

We decided not to disappear out into that so we dissapeared down the front side

Stayed with friends Sat night in Kingfield. Saturday was all about the bumps. Beat myself up.......skiied up fast so no time to take pics. Everyone and thier mother was there.

We ended up @ killington for sat/sun. The trails were pretty beat up early Sat. but it was bottomless in the woods and we only rode trails to get to lifts. Probably the best riding I've done on the EC this season but I'll admit I often thought "I wonder what the loaf is like today?" The snowfields must have been a blast.

Nice TR... wish I could've made it up on thursday looks like it was a bit chilly...

Got up to the loaf on sunday, couldn't go any earlier because of lacrosse, but me and some buddies hit up the backside found some pretty crazy chutes that put you back on the traverse to the salsa shack... first time being there, but the locals have cut some nice stuff back there, def need some more time to explore when the snow is a little fresher... video to follow when I get a chance sometime this week...

I'm in a 'Source of Denial' regarding the remainder of this season

Mass-yeah, they are clearing out sections. over in cant too. wish we got out of ASC with all the rest. With a private owner who could fight to put a lift on the back side of Burnt or Crocker there could be some amazing possibilities for this big mother. Days when no one's there are great in hayburn woods, but opening it up had its pros and cons. Lots of hidden gems still to run to when people are there. I'm gonna post something I shouldn't....... Who cares though, we don't get to throw into pillows daily on the EC, so we suck and should quit our jobs and move out west.

Showtime-Glad you made it to Salsa, but you shouldn't be there your first day at the Mountain. Shame on you and Congrats. Our gold medalist Wescott actually worked on that place. I grew up in the town of Colby. I really shouldn't do this (I'm not giving it all away locs...) for one of those 'colby kids' but I got some good vibes in your post. I made this courtesy GoogleEarth, by wearing my DeLorme handheld GPS and am able to track and see how quickly i moved and see wherever I go. Have you checked out your hill on Google Earth lately?

there is a lot of terrain at the loaf. I lived up in I-70 resorts for years and get to Alta whenever I can, but I still love this hill. As my boss says. Good enough , is good enough.

Rfus- I didn't realize it seemed like it was my first time to sugarloaf... it was my first time to the salsa shack, I've worked for the CVA weekend race program for two years during december and january so I'm still learning the mtn, but I was with someone that had been to the shack before. Hopefully we can get another dump so I can do some more exploring and hit some of the cliffs back there... Thanks for the google earth, I'll have to do some more scouting...
