Extra Holes vs. Moving off Bro recommended point?

Ya I know the Bro mounting point has been discussed to death and I have read pretty much all of those threads, but I was hoping for some advice for my particular situation...

Basically I have a trade off between adding an extra 1/2 set of holes or moving the mounting point back by 1cm. I'm getting lightly used 188cm soft's from the first pre order batch 04/05, that are currently drilled for Sollie's 285mm bsl and recommended point. I need to set them up for 307 mm, and I have a pair of s914's. At some point in the future I would like to throw Dynafits on them and use them purely for touring, but I've also just come across an opportunity to buy some lightly used freerides for what seems like a pretty damn good deal ($250 cad). I know nothing about the dynafit/freeride hole patterns.

Do I:
1. Mount 914's toe piece in existing holes, move heel piece ~22mm's back, making overall mount 1 cm back of recommended point?
2. Mount 914's toe piece 1 cm forward and heel piece 1 cm back, staying at the recommended point with an extra half set of holes.
3. Buy the Freerides and mount them...I'm assuming at recommended point, but again not sure about hole pattern.

I know the freeride decision I probably need to make for myself, I haven't had many opps for pure touring this year, and while I could see the benefits at the resort (mainly Lake Louise), not sure if I want the decrease in downhill performance. I dont' have AT boots, was hoping to get some next year, but maybe my alpines are sufficient for the few times I may/may not get out touring. Long term I'm thinking I want a 105-115 waist everyday ski with alpine bindings, with the Bro's for touring and my multiple core shot Mojo 90's for rock skis.

And while I seem to be sharing just about every insignificant fact about my life here, I'm 6"0, 190 lbs, ski fast and aggressively, but I still have tons of room to improve to the level of many of the immortal rock stars here:yourock: Don't huck very big or very often, but I am slowly growing a pair, though hucking is probably never going to be a huge priority.

I'm sure things will be more clear after I get to ski the Bro's, but I don't want to deface them with any more holes than necessary.

If you were me what would you do in this situation (other than killing yourself after seeing my reflection in a mirror:eek: )?

I agree with mntlion. Over the last couple years and skiing every flex, starting from the supastiff, which I gave to somebody, I went to the stiff, which I broke, and ended up on softs with freerides. Loved them, except on frozen. They don't hold as tight an edge as the stiff. But for piste to back/sidecountry, the setup is sweet. Fine tune the toe height and the freeride is a trustworthy binding on both sides of the rope, IMO.

If I understand option #1 correctly, you don't need to drill new holes? Just slide the heel back?

If so, try this first and see what you think of the set up. My bro Eldereldo eventually decided to move his bindings back of centre on his 188 stiff Bros to find the sweet spot he liked.

For the Freerides, I used mine for backcountry except a couple of days at the resorts. Worked great for the backside at The Lake, but a lot less edge control when skiing down the icy lower frontside at the end of the day. (Probably made worse since mine were mounted on noodley Rossi B3s.)

One thing I didn't like when resort skiing was the lack of ramp angle on the Freerides. If I were to use them at a resort all the time I would definitely remount with the toe plate removed. I never bothered because in untracked snow it wasn't much of an issue.

#1 = remount heel and keep the toe holes and be 1cm back
#2 = remount toes and keep heels holes and be 1cm forward
#3 = all new holes for freerides

Thanks for all the input, Freerides are making more sense the more I think about it, other than the fact that I need to be saving my money right now. Oh well, I suppose I am saving lots of $$ off of retail. I guess I don't really need to think about Dynafits until I get to tour more frequently, which probably won't be for a few more years.

Haven't searched yet, but the Freeride holes shouldn't conflict with current Solly holes to stay at recommended point, right?

I would drill a new set of toe holes for 307mm boot center and then use the existing rear holes .
They should fit ok with a bit heel piece adjustment.

If the freerides are an expense issue for you and you have other bindings, wildstyle has the right advice. Fill the existing holes and move outward with new ones. As I've said before, holes in front of bindings leave a greater opportunity for a break, since you're weakening the point of greatest resistance in the flex by putting holes in front of a toepiece. But then, there's only been about six Bros I know of that have actually broken out of almost 400 pair built.
