Umm. I need some serious input here from the legal maggots.

2 years ago here there was a motorcycle gang war going on in the region. Mostly over titty bars. Then they left the area. However, they have moved back into the region. And they are starting to strong arm business's even on the mtn.

Basically they are showing up beating up customers, going down the village walkway and randomly beating up 60 year old tourists.

Yesterday they were at La Forge at the high point most busiest time of Apre ski(one of the main bars and eatery's here right in the village square). They were doing their intimidation schtick. 3 attacked one of the cooks and a few of the customers. After they left, they went down to La Diable microbrew and put another elderly man in the hospital. The police finally showed up. But this is how scared the cops are of them. The police were not even a half a block away where the Fairmont strikers are at. They didn't show up untill it was overwith. The biker gangs have made their pressence known in the main mtn village, old Tremblant village, and St Jovite.

Intrawest right away went around to the business's and told them not to discus it with anybody. They said that they were increasing security's pressence in the village.

I recieved an unofficial phone call telling me not to post about it on my site, and if I did I could face legal action. I said kiss my ass and hung up.

Now I'm going to post about it. This is serious and customers have a right to know. I couldn't stand by and see someone get hurt knowing I kept my mouth shut. So my question is how much legal trouble could I get in here by telling people what is going on and to be careful.

Unfortunately this isn't a joke.

I'd be less worried about getting sued for something on my site and more worried about having my house/truck/family trashed if these are truely the badasses they sound like.

Yes it is. And unfortunately it has locals very worried. The last time something like this went down one man got gut shot, others hurt seriously. The business they were after got burnt to the ground. The owner disappeared, and what was left of the place was purchased very cheaply way under market value by unknown buyers.

Sunny days in the spring, summer, and fall members of a motercycle club come up and hang around one bar that they openly own on the main street. Locals avoid it like the plague. Even cross the street and go around it. Police when they cruise by look in the opposite direction.

I really don't mean to dramatise this. But they are picking out people at random.

Unless you have some kind of contract(or confidentially agreeement with them, I don't see how they can take legal action against you. Of course, you're in Canada and I'm in the process of getting shit faced... Best, Dood!

Of course, TJ is an ex marine and could probably kill 4 people at once with one hand and a box of bisquick.

buy a gun. nah, make that a large artillery piece or a nuclear weapon. then follow the steps below:

wait to do this until the bar is FILLED to beyond capacity

1) enter biker bar
2) yell "whos ur daddy ur pansy bitches"
3) run out of the door, jamming it behind you with various objects to allow yourself enough time to get across the street
4) demolish the bar with bikers inside using nuclear weapons, 155mm artillery, machine guns, flamethrowers, flying phUnk sluts, spears, etc... you get the idea

they wont fuck with you. or maybe they will, but the best step of all:

5) repeat as necessary

As a 1L in the states, let me begin by saying that I don't know what slander and defamation law is like in Canada- or the U.S. for that matter. I do know that, unless you have some type of deal with Intrawest that prevents you from publishing shit they don't want you to publish, they probably can't stop you from putting it on your website. Assuming it's true.

But- they are a big company with a legal department who can give you headaches that probably aren't worth it for you to deal with, from an economic perspective. And, more importantly for you, they can kick you off of their mountain if they want. There is constitutionally protected freedom of the press, sure, and if what you're reporting is true then you should be okay from claims of that sort; but they have a right as property owners to exclude people from their land that is pretty easy for them to exercise (although now that you don't have the Aztek, it's not as easy as before). So you have to weigh what you could potentially lose against what you gain in this situation.

Generally, posting bad things about the Quebec gangs is bad for your health (according to the newspapers anyway). As long as you're not slandering the ski resorts they can't do anything. Getting the national papers to pick up the story would be more fun and safer too.

Thanks Alex and Viva. As far as getting kicked off the mtn. Unofficially I was informed that they thought about doing that to me last fall. But because of the following I had from my information on RSN, the amount of traffice I get on my site, and the people I send to their shops/boutigues they let me ski on the mtn. But I do get harrassed alot. It's worth the the hassle if my site helps a fellow snow lover some money or hassle.

better just to plant a story with montreal papers about how the property values are going down and the whole place is going to shit because of the inability of the local jurisdiction to handle the situation.

this will get the real players involved as their "investment" will be at risk. a couple well placed photos will do the trick as alot of canadian politicians own property in the area.

however, in general terms, having gangs around helps to keep the greed factor down in resorts - sort of cheap growth management.

Or you could just move out west, where it actually snows, Intrawest won't harass you, and the biker gangs are mostly washed up. That way, you could kill 3 birds with one stone. ;)

Funny part was some of it was carried on my streaming cams yesterday ( I did turn that over to the police).

I'm kinda caught in a Catch 22 situation about this. And Montreal papers have really been following this topic because one of the Hav's hockey players entire family is on trial for extorsion, and murder. They have a well known affiliation with the Montreal gangs.

My wife works for the business's hit. That really concerns me. Luckily I've been teaching hand to hand to defend herself. And some think the the Unions are involved with this as well because of the strike.

dont give the police anything, unless they specifically request it. in writing.

the police obviously can't (or are directed not to) deal with the situation. and don't get cross ways with the gangs by working proactively with the cops. in all likelihood there are local cops with gang ties. take the low road and do taped interviews with tourists and second homeowners saying" I'm never coming back here again" or "i'm selling my condo now" etc. then the corrupt rich fuks will pay off those who are causing the trouble to go fuk with some other place.

its all about the money; just sit back and watch the whole thing crater. its not like all that jackass shit intraworst threw up is going anywhere.

The best thing you can do is to remain as annonymous as possible while trying to get the local and national media involved. Nothing spurs a government into action like bad press. That said, getting the US media involved probably won't hurt either as the thought of losing tourist dollars is quite unsavory. Keep your name and face out of it at all costs as these fuckers will come after you, and regardless of how prepared you are you just don't need that crap in your life. It's simply not worth it.
