FS: Igneous FFFs

I bought them from Vicious here:

Skied 1 day. I have never been so utterly pussified by a pair of skis...

These are too much for my pathetic skiing ability to handle. So off they go, to a burlier home.

Details: 190cm length, 265 flex (about Explosiv feel by hand-flexing, but they ski stiffer than Explosivs), 145/118/125 dimensions. Drilled 2X for Salomons, one at 326ish per Vicious, one at 317ish -- which is where they are mounted right now. Bindings currently on there are Salomon 997 Equipe, DIN to 14, very nice condition, with wide Salomon brakes (not straightened-and-rebent, but bent out just a touch). Few minor scuffs/scrapes in base, nothing at all deep; minor scrapes at edges on topsheets.

Passing them along for the same deal I got, since they're in the same condition as when I got them, though I spent some time tuning. So $450 shipped and they're yours. If you want the bindings too, add another $65.

Do you have Praxis or EHP's? Do you think you can ski them like they need to be skied? I don't know if I can?

El Chup, what is your height, weight and ability, just trying to gage if I'll even be able to ski these. I'm 5-11, 155lbs, no body fat, rower so unusually strong legs and core, I ski 100ish days a year, 45 in utah, no formal racing background but a strong skier, never ski slow, hucks up to 40 feet with regularity, big GS turns whenever possibly....any guidance, will a 265 flex be too much, should I be looking for a 240-50 flex instead?

no i dont have either of those skis. i sure as hell hope i can ski those how they need to be skied. 185lbs, former racer, ski hard, ski fast. the only thing i dont know i can do is carry those up the ridge bootpack, but i did do it today with axioms with solly demo bindings.

ski faster- do you have Praxis or EHPs? A straight across trade might work best for me, since I'm planning on picking up some Praxis later this year, and the 193 EHPs sound fun. (Hopefully like a more skiable version of the FFF for me.) I'm not looking for the 190 EHPs though.

soul skier: I have a pair of Spatulas, thanks for the offer though. Spats are what I switched to after getting owned by the FFFs for a few runs. So much easier to ski....

OK, my ability: probably better than many at a typical resort on a given day, but pretty sucktastic compared to many of the maggots. I probably get 50ish partial days per year, thoroughly fail to land anything I jump off (and so avoid it generally). I'm 6'0", about 195#, and it's definitely not all muscle... These FFFs are the most difficult-to-ski skis that I've tried recently. Head m103s, ANTs, Explosivs = all much easier to ski than the FFFs.

Hmm crapolio, Ive only got about and 1" and 15 lbs on Soul and from the description ski about the same. I guess I'd prolly get pwned by these as well.

um, wow. that is a gnar kill set of skis if I've ever seen one. I had the pleasure of skiing a 180 245RA swallow FFF, and at no time whatsoever did it feel like too little ski, and tankers are my do everything board. I was beat after a couple hours honestly. This has blurred all over it.

Im 230, 6'0 and know that I prefer a big heavy duty ski. Ive got the new gotomas (07-08) and they are right at home for my everyday ski. 190FFFs are made for burly skiers who either weigh around 220+ or complete muscle. If you havent skied them and dont meet these requirements be warned it will eat you up. A good friend of mine had pair for a season (6'1 210, complete muscle), he was one of the only people I have seen ride them day after day without being owned.

honestly, I actually owned this exact pair (from Natty, then sold to Vicious, then to El Chup) and didn't think they were that hard to ski. They are not easy, but if you are a strong skier, decent size, and ski in generally open areas then you should be ok. The only time the stiffness was ever an issue was in deep snow because the tips would bog down. In CO, UT, or WY I don't think you would have much of an issue due to the lighter snow. It was just frustrating to be experiencing tip dive on such fat skis on powder days. They are not happy in tight trees either, but I prefer open spaces so it really didnt matter. Eventually I decided to get a softer flexing model that would actually float and went down to a 240. But I am sure there are a lot of guys on here that would love these skis at 265.

Shape wise, these skis are awesome. Great in pow and crud, obviously, but can really be skied anywhere soft. I only have two pairs of skis right now, 183 m103 and the 190 FFFs, and unless it hasn't snowed for weeks I bring the FFFs. I feel the FFFs carve as well as the m103s on hardpack, and are much better in anything soft.

These skis are going to make someone very happy!

Iggy could you elaborate on the tip dive you had? I posted a thread a couple days ago looking for a ski that could charge but was good in powder, I was recomend the FFF by several people so I am kind of suprised that you say they do not work perfectly in soft snow.

I found on deep days that the tips were just too stiff to get up above the snow. These were very deep days and in heavy PNW snow though (see pics). I had a more established quiver at the time, and because these were my pow day skis, I wanted the skis to float more. So I sold them and got the same skis, just in a 240 stiffness. In lighter snow, the issue was not there at all. If I was back in CO or UT, I would have kept them.

These were taken on the day where I started to think about getting a softer pair. Decided that 240 would still be stiff enough to charge, but would allow the tips to float better.

EDIT: I should also note that I used to have a severe ski-buying addiction and have gone thru a ton of skis over the last 4 or 5 years. The FFFs have been my favorites except for the minor inconvience of tip dive on days like that.....so at the time it didn't seem so illogical to try and get another pair.

but I do understand what you are saying because that is why i am looking for another ski for my quiver, my squads are too stiff in the tip to float. And in heavy pnw snow if your tip goes under your pretty much fucked. So I get where you are coming from, I am right there now.

You should trade ski_faster so I can take them for a spin. Actually, sf's praxis has the same binding and the same bsl as your FFFs so it could be done out of convenience. Plus, you could just pull the bindings to save on shipping.

Hmmm... sounds good to me. Praxis in OK shape?

Note: I mounted the bindings on the FFFs with some fiberglas insulation and marine epoxy, since the holes were a bit loose for my comfort :fmicon: . They're definitely not going to rip out of there. Anyway, I can remove them, but it'll take some effort with a soldering iron -- and if ski_faster's boot sole is the same length anyway, better to just keep these bindings on there.
