long term nicorette use?

ok, so about ten years ago, i smoked for a year. never more than 10 a day or anything, but i still miss it. in the next 9 years, i'd have about one ciggy a month, but abstained any more than that cause i have athsma and like to be a healthy person. i caught pneumonia last year and now i definitely can't even come close to a cig, much less second hand smoke.

sooo...i did use the gum when i first stopped smoking a long time ago, would it be ok to go back for a quick fix? i definitely still miss it. are there serious concerns about using the gum long term?

Nicotine use is an addiction. Don't fuck with that addiction. Gum is just a different way of delivering that drug to your system. Don't do it.

ONE cigarette a MONTH? Sack up and don't smoke it, because you're certainly not "addicted" to nicotine. That shit gets out of your system in 3 days.

You chew one piece of gum and, depending on the nicotine content, you'll have the equivalent of 4-5 smokes in your system. My friend traded his smoking addiction (pack a day) for a gum addiction (5-6 pieces a day.) Sure the gum won't cause cancer, but he's still addicted to a nasty drug.

I actually beg to differ on this one. I am a Molecular bio major and two years ago I did the Ames test on some nicotine gum.

EDIT: the last shit I posted was I guess nonsense. You take a suspected mutagen and you add it to certain strains of yeast colonies and see which ones mutated and were not able to grow. This is how you know what substances could be mutagenic.

And the nicorette gum was found to be moderately mutagenic. So dont just think anyone can eat as much as they want with no consequences. Sure its less mutagenic than smoking, but everything has its risks.

Interesting study, and I guess that really is my question. Obv I know what I'm getting into with a drug (I drink plenty of alcohol and coffee). I just wonder if nicotine could be delivered in a safer way (ie not smoke), would it be any worse than plenty of the drugs we dabble in every day.

def. stay away from nicotine, in any from. I have been cigarette free for 7 years (quit cold turkey after new years, 2000) after smoking a pack a day for 7 yrs, and would never think about smokin another, not even one drag. other smokables, thats a different story/arguement

I quit chewing tobacco two years ago and have been chewing nicorette religiously since. I was actually wondering the same thing. I suppose I put down nearly 40 grams of that stuff a day. I say chew it if you got it.
