Tonsillitis/strep
I woke up the other morning with a mildly sore throat, and some swollen glands.
as the day progressed, it got worse and worse. Yesterday I went to the doctor. He took one look and a quick swab, and informed me I had a pretty bad case of tonsillitis, and some strep throat
He gave me a prescription for penicillin and some T3s. The Tylenol doesn't do much for the pain. To save my liver, I'm not going to take any more (plus it makes me really itchy, and makes taking a shit too much like work).
I have a tough time getting the penicillin down, I can't talk, I can't sleep, I can't eat, to attempt to swallow is agony, and I can't finish a small mug of tea before it is cold. I'm hungry, dehydrated and generally miserable.
Has anyone here had this affliction? If so, was there anything you did, or anything you were prescribed that made swallowing things easier?

try gargling with warm salt water. It will make your throat less sore. Then after you do that then try to take your meds, eat, whatever. I also like to use some chloraseptic spray at night to make sleeping easier.

Suck on ice cubes if you can... helps the pain plus gets you some liquid.

dude, just get a couple of them penicilin down, it starts going away within 24 hours if not less. And as stated, for the pain, make some saltwater and gargle it. By the time u got some better pain meds, its going to stop hurting.
If you just got your penicilin today, then call him up and claim extreme agony. Try and get some vicoden or Codiene cough syrup. Those tylenol 3's are worthless for that kinda pain.

I went back to my doctor and got some special mouthwash. it works really well.
I've also got a sweet bumpy rash now as well. Doc says scarlet fever

Sorry to hear that you're sick.
My spouse almost died this summer from a Strep A infection that turned into necrotizing fasiciitis and toxic shock syndrome. He now sports a skin graft from his knee to his rib cage. The whole thing was a miserable experience.
Definitely finish all the penicillin. I hope you feel better soon.

I normally get strep every second year and bronchitis or a sinus infection in the years inbetween. Strep does hurt for hte first few days, but as long as you are good about taking your antibiotics the pain will go away. It does suck though, I've had to write exams with strep and it felt like death. Strep can indeed kill, though, so don't miss a single dose of your meds.
