For putting on a GREAT, super smooth, really well run Avy .9 field day yesterday. Got a lot of really great feedback from the day.
Combine Hacksaw's talk with hands-on sessions like yesterday (with a great crew of volunteer facilitators), and you've got to be a total jackass if you're looking to get into the backcountry and aren't making use of this resource.
Another "well done" from me. Thanks to all you guys for putting in the effort, I'm sure it will go a long way in helping some folks make informed decisions. Thanks again for showing us around, Yoss. What a beautiful day that was. I'm excited to get out and learn more about the area.

I was at last weekend's session and had a great time. The burial scenarios were the most valuable thing for me. It was great to have a reason for forced beacon and probe practice. Too often when the season starts I tell my touring partners that we will do beacon practice, and we end up racing up to the top to make turns and get home in time to beat traffic. It was also good to see what it feels like when you're probe hits something semi-human (like a stuffed wetsuit or pack). I was in a good group with similar skill/experience levels which was nice.
One minor suggestion - the classroom session did a good job on stressing route finding. I think the field sessions should focus on this a little more. The whole message that avoiding hazard is the best safety approach should be stressed (smart travel). But I recognize you can only squeeze so much into a day long free course. Just getting people out there is a good eye opener for newcomers to the sport.

Another big THANKS to FOBP, Hacksaw and all of the people that volunteered their time to this worthy cause. I was in the first week's class with Justin and he was a great instructor.

Seriously...Bummed I missed out this year...hoping for next year. Thanks FOBP for all your work. You are helping make the bc a better and safer place for all.
I'll also give a big thumbs up to FOBP. I was in the total BC newbie/jong group with Justin as the facilitator, he did a great job covering the BC fundamentals and I learned alot. Books and classroom are good, but getting out on the hillside really makes it click. Thanks for making this type of instruction available.
