Question for construction/plumber mags

So I've decided to remodel my downstairs bathroom. The biggest thing to contend with I think is putting in a new tub - there used to only be a shower downstairs. The shower drained into a 3" cast iron drain in the floor, and the 'pan' for the shower was a 1/2" deep cut out in the concrete floor.
The bathtub drain should line up with the floor drain).

How do I go about connecting the bathtub drain with the floor drain? I know how to do it with a wood subfloor, but I'm not sure about the proper way with this setup. I can snap some pics of what I'm working with it that would help.

Can't give you any direct adive... When I put in a new bathtub, I was working with a basement, so I had lot of room below to connect the p-trap. I would suggest going to www.doityourself.com and asking the experts. You might find someone here that knows what they're doing, but you're probably best off asking someone over there. Good luck!

The drain in the floor is probably a storm (water) drain and not a sewer drain. Even though you're just dumping soapy water and cooties it might be ending up in a local stream. A real plumbing supply place (i.e. not Home Depot) will have lots of fitting -- like reducers -- to connect different pipe sizes. Most cast iron to plastic adaptors are rubber sleeves that go on the outside so you might have to use an inside adaptor and lots of silicone.

I'm pretty sure everything goes to the sewer drain, we had a partial blockage of the sewer line and all the drains/toilet were blocking up. I dug around at the HODE and they make rubber doughnuts that go inside the cast iron adapter and reduce it for use with a smaller pvc pipe.

Is the problem making the new tub drain line up (plumb) with the old shower drain or just making the new connection?
