I just saw it today. It's f***in' awesome. Definitely one of the best sports movies I have ever seen. On par with Rudy. If you watch this flick and don't feel like cheering out loud in the theatre (especially at the end), you're either Russian or brain dead. For anyone who likes sports (any sports), go see it.

But my favorite sports movie is Bull Durham. And my favorite hockey movie is Mystery, Alaska.
I tried to get into a hockey movie a few years back at an independent arts festival in Denver. Some garage production out of Canada made by an NHL family. It was full by the time I got there but I'd love to get a copy of it. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
i found myself cheering along during the game.. its so bizarre - you know whats going to happen (or most do at least) but its so well done, you cant help but cheer. awesome cinematography - nice to see what they can do when they can set the shots up.

Gotta go with Slapshot as the best hockey movie ever, but Miracle was really well done. My only complaint is that since it was a Disney movie, a lot of colorful language was discluded that was a realistic part of what Brooks used in his psychology. HBO did a special on the whole thing before the movie was even made. Some nice interviews with the players. Brooks entire speech before the final game was just this: "If you guys don't win the gold, that win against the russians means nothing. If you lose this game, you'll take it to your fucking graves. TO YOUR FUCKING GRAVES!!"

I'm sure it was probably a cost or logistics issue that was the cause. However, having gone to see Team USA play in 1980 as well as playing in the Olympic rink at Lake Placid, I just could never get past it. I just seemed too fake to me.

The two are awesome for very different reasons.
I'm sure it was just impratical to shoot there, but since I've never been there (and most people who will see the movie never have), I had no clue until you mentioned it that it wasn't Lake Placid. Never even thought about it.Quote:

As far as the Disney-fication of the film: I was actually a bit worried (since it's rated PG) that it would be more of a family movie, but it's not. There's no harsh language, but the issues dealt with aren't really for kids to figure out. I assume there was a lot more swearing in real life - I mean, we are talking about hockey players - but I applaud the fact that they pulled off all the drama, and all the emotion without resorting to dropping all kinds of f-bombs.

Abso-fuckin-lutely amazing! Best climbing movie I've ever seen.
The pre-accident climbing is very accurate, conveys the immense boredom and sheer terror of "thunk-thunk, kick-kick" ice climbing very well. Post-accident you spend a lot of time holding your jaw closed and generally being impressed. I've read the book, and even though I knew what was going to happen I was still completely drawn in by the movie.
The reactions from the audience were classic too.
At the end of the film just before the credits
Titles on Screen:
Joe Simpson lost 1/3rd of his body weight during the ordeal.
(pause)
It took X years and X many surgeries to recover
(pause)
He still climbs to this day.
Audience Reaction:
"WHAT THE FUCK!" "You have GOT to be kidding me!" "JEEE-ZUZ!"

need winter shots and theres always a winter event in placid which means that hotels/food/etc for cast and crew would have been $$$$$
the olympic center is HUGE, so you would have needed to have I would say 15,000 extras to costume and coordinate.
During the 1980 olympics cars were banned from the village and people were bussed in I doubt very much that people would enjoy having main street in Placid shut down for several hours so that they could take the shots, plus you could simply pull old file photos and vids for that
