Seeing as how your other thread devolved I'm going to start a new one:
IMVHO - Registering for selective service is not a negative deal at all. It gives you the pass for education funding and keeps you legal. It is an easy way to keep track of people for a draft. Do not kid yourself though: If the draft is re-instated "they" will find you regardless of whether or not you've previously registered with them. Registering with SS DOES NOT materially limit your courses of action should you choose to not participate in a future war.
If there is a war that is large enough to re-instate the draft then you will have to do some serious soul searching as to whether or not you will participate, registered with SS or no.
Who knows, you may want to join the military for a future war. After all there is a hell of a big difference between WWII and Vietnam.
I think one of the great lessons of the Vietnam era is that as a society and as individuals we need to take a careful thoughtful look at the actions we take. I know a lot of people who went to VN simply because we were at war with them and never questioning the "rightness" of the war and wish they'd done a bit more soul searching first.
My .02 - YMMV
I didn't see if you'd made a decision in the other thread and it was so hateful I stopped reading.
All you haters - keep your shit outta my thread.
