A friend of mine is heading to HI on Friday to visit his wife's family for the holidays and I've pretty much told him I'll come out there and beat him up myself if he doesn't go check out the contest.

I'm surprised at how clean it is out there. Trades are blowing at 25kts+ today. Look out for the afternoon chop.

Edit to say Pipe is so fucking dangerous on days like this. Breaks right on the shallowest part of the reef. Example, Jake Paterson's and Tamayo's gribbles in heat 7.

Fucking mindblowing. The "missing" Mob waves are there as well.

Watershots are waaay more realistic than the land based shots and portray the heaviness of 6-8 foot backdoor breaking in 3 feet of water.

I haven't surfed Backdoor and probably never will, only similar waves compared to it such as Cloud 9 and P-pass in similar conditions... these two spots which gave me the most mind blowing barrels of my life also ended up in busted quivers or an up-close and personal encounter with Mr Coral Reef for us mortals. But it was so fucking worth the spanking. Kinda like banging a dominatrix supermodel.
