pffft. All i got was some novacaine. :(
It ended up being an extraction....VERY big cavity, and the doctor said "oops" as he was doing the procedure....(never good)..."Aahhhh, yeah, what was left of your tooth just kind of broke, and since it's a molar, we're just going to pull it."

Yah I have had about four root canals and some other procedure where they cut into your gum (oral surgery) and cut the root off and try to get everything cleaned out from both sides.
I never got anything except novacaine for the regular root canals. They're really no big deal -- people hype them up to be alot worse than they are. The trick is if you feel even any slight pain tell the dentist and they will give you more novacaine -- problem solved. Without pain its not any worse than having a cavity filled except it lasts a little longer.
Be sure and tell them you might have trouble sleeping and are worried about pain later= Vicoden scrip.
