Naxo - clicking in/adjustment issues

Anyone else had this problem?

I've had various Naxos since their introduction. Just moved a previously mounted set onto a pair of Gotamas. I can't click into them without yanking up on the heel. I'm using a new pair of Mega Rides that have only been used in Freerides but previously the same Naxos worked fine with g-rides - although the naxo click in is always a little "soft" compared to FRs or alpines. I've reset everything following Wildsnow.com instructional - toe height, boot length & forward pressure and tried it with DIN wound off.

Seems almost like the Mega Ride heel is too tall to snap the heel over center?

You getting your brake stomped down all the way when you step in?

Think so - I did wonder if the Lugs on the boot heel are perhaps fouling the brake. The brake is clearing the ski fine.

What are people setting their NAXO forward pressure at? How much of the dimple on the piston showing?

Kidwoo - I made the mistake of not putting any wax on those Gots that we gear swapped. they were stick grabby sons of bitches first day out. Hope for a more representative day on them soon.

I must have mailed those things before I went on my summer waxing spree. Sorry. I was waxing them every day when spring hit though.



The reason I asked about the brake is that I had a pair of freerides with the same issue. I'd bent the brakes out and the heel plaform wasn't seating all the way....just a thought.

Maybe grind down some of the vibram/airwalk stuff. I'm guessing you've gotten a good look at them on a bench trying to click in and see what's wrong?

No problem it was just my anxiety to try them.

Good thought about the brake bending doing something funky - I did have to spread them a little so perhaps it's hooking up somewhere under the heel pad? I had a couple of walk outs on them which I put down to a) my sucking b) waxless bases and snow stickage. This could be contributing?

If your brake is not letting your boot seat properly then sure, it could definitely cause a prerelease since you're not starting from the proper static engaged point as designed. I'd just check it out really closely with the ski on a bench, pressing down the brake pad with both your hands and with a boot.

Something you could try too is to take the arms out, and try to seat the boot with just the pad there. I don't know specifically what the naxos look like up close but if it's the arms causing your brake pad to sit too high, removing them could tell the story. If I'm not mistaken there should be recesses for the arms that take the stack height of them out of the equation. If the boot goes in with just the pad in place, then you know it's not the boot that's not fitting in the heelpiece. If it still doesn't fit, then yeah, the boot's too thick.

Just looking at it really close at eye level on the bench should tell you something.

That's how I would approach it at least.

check that the brake clears competly and is al the way screwed in in the right slots.

I dont know which naxos you have but I know firsthand from the engineers (thats the word?? the guy who develops them) that in some cases they constructed the heel piece, the thing you put youre boot on to step in, too far upwards what means, they only click in if the boot is exactly centered and no snow at all is attatched to the boot. This "not completely closing" happend quite often to models earlier than 2005/half when snow was stuck to the heel part of the boot, even just a little.
So maybe youre boot is a little little bigger at that heel piece that hat to fit. Maybe just cut away a milimeter and it will work.

Newer models have grooved (I dont know the word and thats what my translation prog came up with, flueted is another word it came up with) heel step in pieces what solves the problem by clearing differences.

edit: thats for european models but as far as I know they didn't construct them differently in NorthAmerica, just that z-thing what doesnt mean a lot.

Im having similar issues with my naxos. I have to bend down and pull the heal peice up like an old marker mrr. Ive also pre released more often than Id like. Obviously these are touring bindings, but Im finding it hard to justify the wieght of these bindings if I have zero confidence in them. If I have to dial back my skiing, Im going to go with something lighter. anyone want to buy a pair of naxo bingings?

I had this same problem last time I went out. I too have new mega rides and never had a problem with my g rides. The notch in my forward pressure is just barely showing. No preleases yet. I will be looking at this later tonight. :confused:

Same problem here with megarides and naxo 01's. Thought it was just me. Haven't had time to study the problem so have little contribute but common experience at this point.

same problem on 2 pairs (but only 1 of each)with 2 different boots.
I wonder if its just a flaw in the design

I believe that this is an issue with the forward pressure. I've spoken to a couple different people already about this issue and it seems that the forward pressure NAXO specifies (watching the recessed notch) is too much to allow easy entry. If you move your heel piece back one notch it will snap in easily, and have been told this amount of forward pressure is fine.

I'm going to email naxo and see what they say.

i have also noticed that the brake does not easily retract, so it makes it harder to step in. dunno why. kinda weird.

Very interested in their response. I wondered if it didn't have something to do with the Megaride's soft sole or????

I moved my heel back and still was not able to click in properly, though can with the old Langes in their right spot.

I used Naxo N01 with MegaRides for 2 seasons, and found some difficulty fully engaging the heel piece on occasion.

One fix that already is mentioned is the forward pressure adjustment, play with it until the cocking lever doesn't require manual raising.

Another is that you might be lacking sufficient contact at the boot sole/binding heelpiece tab interface. This can be caused by the ramp of the sole at the rearmost part of the heel, and the ramp not fully pressuring the tab on the binding's heel piece. Building the area with Shoe Goo or similar stuff can help with that issue.
