cheap (relatively) places to crash in Aspen in January??

I'm doing the COSMIC ski mountaineering races in Snowmass and Sunlight in January and am looking for a place to crash for those two weekends. What's the best deal on hotels in the Aspen area. Both weekends I'm going to need to crash on Friday and possibly Saturday night which blows for decent prices. I'm looking at MLK weekend and the weekend after (19-20). Any help would be awesome. PM me or whatever with any info you may have.

Also, if any Aspen mags out there are willing to put up a floor or couch for me, I'd stock fridges with beer or buy dinner/drinks for the favor. I'm neat, clean, and drug free. I can hook up a place to stay in Boulder or possibly Breck as a return kick as well.

I don't remember the names of the towns but closer to 70 (away from Aspen) there are some cheaper hotels. Just look at a map. The back of the rental car works good. Just fold the back seat down and put most of your body in the trunk.

I guess it all depends on your idea of cheap...
I have stayed at the hotel Colorado in Glenwood springs a couple of times - it's 30-45 minutes out of Aspen but it was pretty reasonable (I think like $120/night) - and I remember seeing some deals in Carbondale. I'll check if I still have all that info
edit: there's a Holiday Inn Express in Glenwood Springs too - just checked $96/night King room those weekends

Guess, I shoulda said I want to stay in Aspen as much as possible. I dig the town and would like to get out Saturday night after the races and not have to drive. 100bux per night is probably where I'm shooting for (mostly cuz I think this might be the lower end of reasonable in Aspen), which is probably next to impossible MLK weekend, but maybe the following weekend. Don't really know, just starting to research this now. Sleeping in my Jetta is a definite possibility.

Dorm room with 2 others. Clean Cute little place walk to mountain or Bus. Perfect for young travelers.

"Mountain Chalet"
Dorm Room, Closer to trail but old crowd Boring after skiing but they have pool and hot tub.

Little red is way fun crowd But I have not been there in 10 Years.

Yep -- you'll feel pretty smart in the morning since the money you saved will pay for your lift and food for the day.

Just build a snowcave in the downtown park. I'm sure the fine people of Aspen would be fine with a mag like you sleeping in their pimped out park Turner.

Not a bad idea Knauer. Good to see you're spending your day just as effectively as I am. A snowcave under the rugby goal post (do you call them goal posts in rugby?) could be a nice time.

BTW, Little Red Ski Haus is winning right now at 72bux/night for a bunk in a shared room.

no rooms anywhere so far on MLK weekend as expected.

There is this little place called the St. Moritz. Check it out. Walk a few blocks to downtown, free continental breakfast.

I wouldn't recommend sleeping in your car........i drove to Aspen for new years last year with no place to stay and ended up passing out in my backseat.......it was coldddd, even though i had a winter sleeping bag......

Seriously, it's not OK to sleep in your car there. Haven't you ever seen Aspen Extreme?

Cold isn't a huge concern. Slept in my car in January in Telluride once, and last year I slept in a bivy sack and 0 degree bag on top of halfmoon pass on a january attempt to summit holy cross. A cold night in a car will be a blessing compared to that night. That said, I'm trying hard not to have to sleep in the car. Looks like I got the 19-21 taken care of, now just have to figure out MLK weekend. St. Moritz website says booked for both btw.

the Aspen mags can tell you better, but it'd be more like sleeping in your car in Gunny.

Just kidding. I'm a college kid, and will be back home for the holidays in aspen then, staying at my dad's house, so as long as its cool with the old man, the couch is yours. It should be cool with the old man, too, because my brother ussually brings about 30 drunken idiots from boulder back each year for the X Games. Just pm me about a week beforehand, if you don't figure anything else out.

EDIT: Its comepletly chill to sleep in your car in aspen. As long as you're not parked downtown, no one gives a shit.
