Rossi/Look bindings or Salomon for my new Scratch BC's??

I was pretty much all set to find some rossi binders for the new scratch bc's until I went to a local shop to just see what they had. When I mentioned I wanted some rossi bindings (scratch or axials) the store manager instantly went into a tirade about how he doesn't like rossi bindings since they discontinued the turntable heel plate, that I shouldn't mount these up with anything but Salomons, blah blah. He went on to say that the new rossi design for the heel piece just uses a "beginner level" base/track, then they just use a different upper body and even though the new design has better forward pressure, they lost the side to side twisting elasticity (I took that as meaning no return if you start to release sideways out of the heel).

Now I am a big fan of Salomon bindings, they are on all my other skis, but was thinking of trying these with rossi's. Rossi's have come recommended by a friend who skis them. I also can get the rossi's at a much better price than anything Salomon worth putting on these.

Can anyone tell me why I shouldn't mount these with rossi's? and if there is any truth to what I was told tonight at the shop? Thanks!

True, they discontinued the turntable design, but w/e.
I have axial 120s and this years look px12 jibs on my skis, and while the axials are heavier than id like, they are both solid, beefy bindings and hold you in pretty fucking well.

Id really recommend the px series, if for no other reason than saving $$$.

I think you'l find as many Look/Rossi fans here as Solly fans. Although the consensus ( at least to some degree....guess that wouldn't really be a consensus then...?) seems to be that the px heel was a step backwards.

I'll swear by my Look/Rossi bindings (pivoting style), and yes - the PX was a mistake.
I went with the Axial 140 over the FKS185/P18 because of the fact that the Axial has a vertical toe release, and the FKS doesn't, but the FKS is quite a bit stronger, metal...goes for years and years. The 916 is another binding I considered, and a super solid choice - full metal housing, holds up for years as well, but is about a pound heavier than the FKS route. Both are solid choices, it's just personal preference really. But if you want to go with the Look/Rossi's, get on Ebay and find a pair with the DIN you want, and the pivoting heelpiece, they go for fairly cheap.

The store owners logic is flawed. Don't use the new PX since it doesn't have the elastivity of the pivot, yet use a Sallie? Does the Sallie have elastivity in the heel from side to side? No. I use both Sallie and both generation Looks. Both work well. I suggest that you go back and tell the shop guy that you are really sold on putting some Markers on the BC's. His response to that could be interesting...:rolleyes:

Turns out I am going to use a salomon binding because I just spoke to a friend who bought a pair last season at cost and didn't need them, so he is going to sell them to me for what he paid for them. He thinks they are either 912's or 914's with wide brakes. Doesn't really matter, either will work for me.

Can't wait to ski the BC's.....now if it would only snow here in the east.......

I'd be interested to hear how you like those BC's.

I'm interested in the Sick Bird, but given that demoing a pair of those will be nigh impossible, I'm looking to demo a pair of the BC's this season.

dookey67 - I picked up some of last year's BC's (vs sick birds) as for an AT setup with my Naxos. Those are great skis! The turning radius is tighter than what I'm used to...but the skis are solid and predictable.

DEVO - personal bias aside, rossi will extend your warranty if you mount the skis up with rossi binders.

a friend mounted some new scratches with Z12 binders. They are stupid light...it's pretty ridiculous.

Otherwise a rossi 120 or 140 will do just fine.

Oh yeah, I have some Axial 120's on my Karmas and like 'em fine.

Have some Salomon 912s on my Armadas, but ended up not liking the ski, so will be swapping those to another pair of sticks this season.

But hey, since you got the bindings at cost, the Salomons should be just peachy.

MRKRISTOFO: what size BC's are you rockin'? And do you have the Naxo21s? (I'm contemplating an AT set up this season and wavering between the tried and true Freerides and the Naxos).

185 BC's and nx21's. Great setup. I can send you some pics if you'd like. I wasn't sure about the whole AT binding deal...especially fritschis (my roommate has blown up and warrantee'd 3 pairs of freerides). After 4 days on the nx21's, I'd say they're pretty damn solid as far as torsional rigidity goes. So far so good...now I only need another 100 days on them. BTW, this is a touring rig, i.e. I don't ski AT bindings in-bounds.

I'm new to the AT thang, but ride with some tele and AT heads quite frequently, so the bug has been planted.

Don't currently have a dedicated set-up, but have been considering Bros and even contemplating taking my 177 Mantras and re-mounting them with AT bindings (I need to try a 184 first to see if I want to replace my 177 as an everyday powder ski or that is where the SB would come in as I'd probably mount 'em alpine).

i found this thread through a search and wanted to see how the skis are treating you. i just bought a pair of bc's the other day (waiting for them to come in the mail) and shopping around for bindings now.

my other skis have look p14s on and i love them. so i was looking to put the same ones on the bc's. i guess ebay is the only way to go now. do any of you know if there are wide brakes for the pivots or is that a diy job?

The skis? I f*ckin' love them. I skied one full day on groomers at loon and was really surprised at how much I liked them on groomers. I skied them both days this past weekend at Jay in both knee deep powder and bumped out tree runs. They were fantastic. The girth takes a little gettting used to, especially when trying to swing them around in tight trees.
