Need Board Binding Help

this question is for my g/f.

She boards (I ski); her existing bindings are looking a bit like frankenstein, with replacement parts scavenged from other bindings... so, she wants new bindings.

the question is whether folks feel the bindings that grip the toes and pull them down and back (toward the heel) are a good development vs. the bindings that look like rear entry ski boots? She's a relative newbie at riding, and any suggestions will make me look good in her eyes. (yep, I'll catch shit for this, I'm sure.)

Are you referring to cap straps? They're ok, but I like the old normal straps more. I have never tried Flow but haven't heard much positive about them. My advice would be to steer clear of Burton bindings, great feel but they don't last. I went through a year period where I warrantied 3 base plates, 2 highbacks and countless ratchets.:the_finge I will say that their warranty department was pretty good. :cussing:

I love my Union Data bindings. I rode them probably around 100 days last year and didn't strip out a single ladder! :eek: I and most other people I ride with usually get maybe 20 days out of other ladders. I was in shock with the quality of the Unions. I did bust a highback when I hucked myself into someone else's bombhole, but when I called Union I actually spoke to the owner who rushed me out 2 highbacks, some spare ratchets which I don't need and threw in a dvd and some stickers. He was great to deal with.

Though I have never tried them, the only other binding that I have heard universally praised are Salomon bindings.:p

I have Salomon S4's and I too and with Wong on regular style bindings. It is preference.

I think this will be my 4th season on this binding and have had no trouble at all. (well besides sometimes cleaning out the snow turned ice in the rachet, but that will happen to any binding).

Was on Solly S2's before that.

Never tried the Flow binders. And don't want to.

Toe cap binders are nice, but I personally don't care for Burton products. Never had long lasting luck with em.

I ride Solly boots, bindings and board, so maybe I am biased, but been on a full Solly setup for 10 years straight.
