Just thinking about what to do this weekend and was wondering if the skiing is any good up there?
last friday:

since then it got 6 inches, but reports are it's still hard. the alberta area may be softer but was closed when we were there...
unless it snows we're skipping it this week.
(edit for a grimmer picture: spring conditions without the afternoon softening. still, with less than 100 people on the hill it was better than great :))
Thanks, yeah not sure if I want to drive up for that. Where is a place to stay cheap?
we've stayed in the best western in pagosa springs for $75 or so (it's cheap if two or more are sharing a room). i'm sure there are cheaper alternatives but i am not aware of them. pagosa is 23 miles from the resort (pretty much the closest town, south fork is on the other side of the pass, increasing your distance from ABQ significantly).
locals will be more than happy to help you with ideas for places to drink/sleep on the way up the chairlift. it's a low-key place :)
try www.riverbend-resort.com
nice little cabins in south fork, much cheaper than pagosa.
