I tried the search function, honestly...
Pending confirmation from Bisnibble, I'm planning to mount bindings in existing holes on some Iggies. Same binding, close boot-sole length.
These holes are filled with the plastic plugs, can I just drill through them or do they need to be removed?
were they drilled with a 3.9 or 4.5mm bit before? you can carefully drill out the plastic plug (be careful to not widen the hole) and then mount up the new binders with slow set epoxy (24h or more) mixed with some steel wool. If the screws don't bite after you've redrilled, you'll be looking a the helicoil route. However, if the holes were plugged properly to begin with then you should be fine.
don't mess up the threads by drilling, poke a flathead screwdriver into the plugs - get it hot if you have to - then unscrew the plug and you'll have a nice clean hole to remount in. If you ruin the threads, you'll have to helicoil the hole, no big deal but better not to if you can help it.

Those holes are fine. Take a really small drill bit (like half the size of the original bit) and just drill shallowly into the center. The plug should pop right out. If there's some left on the outer edge, just drill into it. I tried to drill a small hole in the middle of a plug and theese things are not commin out, in fact right now one of em is a mess, from drillin and tryin to pry out with an icepic. any sugestions?

A drywall screw will screw into the plug and then you just yank em out
I'm with bossass. Just work it a little without doing anything to mash up the hole. Think of it like popping a wine cork. If the drill bit shreds it a bit, that ok, just get something small in there and work out what didn't stick to the bit. Just takes a little persistence and patience. Small (real small) bit is key.
Ok called my local shop to see if they would drill them out, They claimed the integrity of the threads are comprimised by the plug and a $76 remount with new holes was reccomended. any thoughts on this
thats their worse case estimate without even seeing them and probably they have to do a remount for insurance purposes or SFT
If I was remounting the exact same binding or even if I was just reusing some of the holes I would drill the plugs out with a really small bit
the plug is just a friction fit I don't think you really destroy any of the threads usuallly the plugs come out when you are drilling
pull whatever didnt come out from the hole with a drywall or wood screw & mount the bindings with 2 part epoxy

Maybe the plugs were glued in. I'm in Penfield and play with binding mounts. Have all the tools and a drill press. Be glad to help you. PM sent.
