I'm not so sure how much fun the 55+ knot gusts would have been though.

Where is that?
We had some massive offshores, unfortunately SSW to SW instead of W or NW up here in Maine, but the swell held throughout the day yesterday. Made the initial drop a little tough at times - I was blown off the back on a couple.
Too bad the storm didn't track a little farther east instead of inland, would have made for nicer wind directions...
Pretty brutal winds indeed early Sunday morning here in Maine. Damn cold getting out of the water -- the wind felt like it was going right through 6mm of neoprene.
Yeti, Where'd you surf?
I drove down to OOB to check it - too much wind and sideshore, then went out at Docs for a bit - ok but got too crowded (11 people!), ended up at Scarborough at around 2 - the wind was whipping but turned a bit more west, and it was great once you got into them.
Outer cape.
Incoming it got large.
I was surf fishing and getting real nervous as the sets started turning into shore break.
