900s Equipe How old is too old?

So I did a serch but didn't find this specific question so jong away if I missed it. I went to have my ak rockets(thanks SAC) mounted today and was going to have my 900s Equipe's mounted on them. They are 1999/00 models and probably 110 days total over two seasons before I got new skis and bindings. They skiing that was done on them was not very hard skiing as I sucked back then, didn't jump off anything over 10ft and didn't even like bumps. The guy at the store says he will mount them but he doesn't think I should because they are so old they may fail the binding test and then I have these worthless holes drilled.

So is this guy right or is he feeding me a line too try and sell me new bindings? I don't automatically question the integrity or motivations of shop techs but I certainly know tons of people skiing the same stuff I do on older bindings. I am 6'4, 205 and an agressive expert skier. These swallowtails will probably be my everyday ski so thats like 60+days a year. Is it worth to get new bindings or should I ignore this guy and get the 900s mounted? Thanks in advance.

well, the holes are the same as the new solly bindings (except the z12, etc) so the holes will be reused if you stay with the solly brand.

the bindings should be in good shape. What DIN are they?

If they look fine, they probably are.
Tell the retard to mount the bitches.
If they fail the test, the holes are the same as any other 9xx binding.

I'd say go ahead and mount them up, but if he really is just trying to get you to buy new bindings I'm sure that yours would magically fail the test.

Even if they do fail, the 900s hole pattern should be the same as newer sollies (correct me if I'm wrong) so you could throw on some 914s or 916s without redrilling.

on of pair of my boards i have an old pair of sollies from about '94 i'd say. din14 and they work fine...granted i don't use them that often. one thing i do at the end of every season is back my binders out all the way to take the tension off the spring. i really have no idea if it does any good, but it makes me feel better:p

Thanks guys. They are the 16 din. I kinda figured as much but wanted to get some second opinions. And damn you guys are quick.

Edit to add: last questions. Are brakes for these older sollys same as newer brakes? as I am probably gonna need wider brakes. Comparing them to some newer sollys on a friends skis they look identical in construction.

I have a lot of old salomons. like back to the early 90's.

I think the metal ones are pretty fucking trusty. I would mount those fuckers up.

Mount them up, the binding's still indemnified so even the lawyers at Salomon think they're still OK. Worst case (not likely with the 16 DIN). binding is broken and you have to replace with any Salomon performance binding made since 1990.

Those bindings are all metal, so it's pretty unlikely they're shot. I've seen some 16DIN Salomons develop play in the heel track over time, but this is generally taken up when the boot is engaged in the binding. The toe wings are metal, so they're much less likely to strip on misadjustment as plastic toes.

As for brakes, you'll likely have to swap the arms from fat brakes into the square housing on you 16 DIN 900s.

i got a pair of 900s with 9-16 din that still work great, i compared it to my older 916's and it is exaclty the same binding, but with a different name

They are totally worthless. Completely unsafe. I, however, collect such dinosaurs and will give you $60 for the offending pair.

those clamps are pretty much gold to me. I've been using s900's for the past 8 years or so. They do what a binding should. nothing more, nothing less.
The best part is, you can score them cheap. I snag up 997/900 din 14 and up from ski swaps mounted on old straight skis for anywhere from 20-30 bones. not bad for a bomber binder.

I trust these more than any marker on the market, and more than the zblah series new sollys.

Plus, you can get them in all kinds of sweet retro colors. my 997s are neon yellow and I want the neon green splatter paint looking ones. those are soo sweet.

I took them to Aspen Sports in the Regis, since the one on the mall is closed. This is the first pair I have had mounted since I have moved here(well my Dynafits got mounted at the Ute) so I am open to any recs on good places. I have only heard good things about Aspen sports and they did a good job on my AT boots so I just figured they would be fine for what seemed a pretty simple mount.

What marshal said. The guy is trying to sell you new bindings. Any binding that is on the indemnified list is not too old. Plus, plenty of people have put multiple 100+ day seasons on those bindings.
