I probably just missed it, but I don't see 1394 (aka Firewire) in there...

Edit: FWIW, six-pin 1394 is cool because you can recharge an iPod or any other device that can power itself from Firewire (maybe external Firewire hard drives?).

buy a firewire card and put it in. Or call up dell and see if they'll put an audigy sound card in there (has firewire on it). I'd also rip out the GeForce and put in a radeon, but that's just me.

I keep championing this... get a dual boot linux/windows setup for your OS-- I don't think you'd be dissapointed.

Yeah, I'd also swap the GeForce with a Radeon. I'd also try to work into the mix a second hard drive. Video editing goes much better if you have a dedicated media drive that's separate from the drive on which all your applications are running (less issues with dropped frames, and other video "hiccups".)

Other than that, sweet system!

I thought for sure it would have Firewire, but I looked at the Dell site, and it doesn't look like it does. You definitely want Firewire if you're going to hook up a DV cam to it.

Better talk to Dell and se i they can add it, or at least make sure there's an empty slot where you can put one in.

Agreed...you can never have too much storage and a dedicated drive is VERY nice to have. I have dual 180gb hd's on my mac and the second is for video editing only. Now all you have to do is find a video editing suite that you can tolerate on a PC.

Radeon AIW- lots of vid inputs+utilities, plus Radeons have better visual quality than GeForces in general. Plus faster and runs cooler.

"Internal" parts are easy....boss won't see 'em and wouldn't know what they are, anyhow. Things like two monitors or huge monitors are hard to justify in the financial marketing industry.

Keep up the good work. ATI used to have the crappiest driver support IMHO, they gotten 100% better in the last year or so. I'll attribute this to the maggot/minion factor :) I've got a 9800 Pro and am completely happy with it.
