cataract....deschutes
ok...first order...very soon (as in as soon as i get pictures) i will have a TR for our cat trip last week. all i can say is amazing. next....any oregon mags out there with some info for the deschutes? we're looking at a multi day trip for the college during spring break....i've kinda perused oregon paddlers and AWW and found out a bit, just looking for anyone with personal experience on the river. that is all. thanks :):yourock:

Did a Deschutes trip a few years ago. The Multi-day section above the big falls takes about 3 days and the section below takes about 2. Both sections are great and if you portage the falls(not hard to hire a shuttle), it makes an amazing 5-6 day trip.
Tons of camp sites along the river, most of them have pit-toilets but I would bring a groover anyway just incase you get stranded.
If you go over spring break(the same time I went when I did it) you probably will only see one or two other trips on the river.
As for the whitewater, it is great. Not too many completely flat sections although you will encounter some long sections of slow moving water(atleast there is a current!). In the whole run there are probably something like six or seven class III+ to IV rapids so you hit 1-2 a day, making for an exciting yet relaxing trip.
The only concern in spring is the weather. Somedays you may have 70 degrees and sun and the next it could be snowing on you. Just pack for all weather conditions regardless of the forcast.
