Scary day on the Midi
Not for riding, but for other reasons, First the tram stalled 100 yards shy of the top station for about 20 min...lots of stop starting in a Gale......one tourist passed out, we thought he had died the way he hit the floor!...the arete was of course lots of fun with a 50mph wind tring to rip you off the mountain....the skiing was ok but nothing spectacular, unless you count the view...

An interesting route in places

The seccond reason is the sort of people you see up the mountain now that the ridge has a guide rope on it......quite a lot of people who have no glacier gear (harness rope axe crampons etc) and normaly no avie gear either and no clue what they are doing....and with the guides a great many people who's skiing isn't up to a sensible level and/or who's fitness is just so poor they are nearly dying from the effort.....these have been so bad of late that more than one party has been hellied off because they coudn't continue.....enough people die in this valley from unforseen unavoidable accidents without all these idiots!
This weekend SuPu gets lessons in glacier travel :)
edit for oops on the image tags , thanks ice

Idris: how is the punta hellbronner lift running now in the midseason? is it open how often? comming up to aosta in couple of weeks and we was wondering if we would come up to Pta.Helbronner/Chamonix side aswell (aosta region ticket is supposed to give 2-3days of skiing in cham). Have managed to avoid that area for few years now...:)

Think it' s still busted from when an avie took out the power lines....not many tracks from the italian side as yet...will keep ya posted....the telecabine du valley blanche, the long one that goes international is closed till may...always....on the aosta ticket ya probably right , cause Cham gives the same in reverse
