Freerides breaking??????

I just did a hut trip outside of Aspen this weekend with a set of Freerides. When I got to the ridge with the heel still free I fell over the tip and broke the binding at the pivot point. 7 miles from the car and a broken binder in hand!!!!!!
Has anyone else had a problem with this.
Just to let everyone know my buddy had a 6 inch hose clamp with him and we rigged the binder to the ski to make it back to the hut and then to the car.
So now I will always carry a hose clamp in my backpack when in the back country!!!!!

Funny you should mention it. I just picked up a hose clamp myself for just such an occasion. So it works I gather ! Nice !

Yes the hose clamp works great, we also had to take some bailing wire and secure the toe to the hose clamp after I got my boot in place.
I then put the skin over the clamp for the climb out, then I just delt with the clamp around the ski untill I got to the car.

No breakage on the toe piece for me *yet*. I did however break the stage lift. See pic

The piece that rotates the lifter sheered off from the body of the mechanism. I didn't notice till I was stepping into it in the lift line at Grand Targhee. I was pretty shetched about it, but ended up skiing pow all day. I had BD overnight me the piece (20 bones).

Page phlingle and ask him about the time his broke.......

Interesting that this forward fall in touring mode is what folks feared about the Naxo design, which led me to get the more bomber and tested freerides.
Lets hear it for hose clamps, bailing wire and duct tape!!

BTW, what other solutions/bindings are out there that would be better?

The fritschi stops a bit past 90, but well before the boot hits the ski - allowing it to break.
