I am trying to find out about Zags. I know nothing about them and am torn between a pair of 191 Zag 91 gold pro models and a pair of 184 stockli DP pro's, both last years skis. I am currently on a set of 198 First gen DP Stormriders. the setup will be mounted with a set of freerides for binders.
Anyone have an opinion on this?

zags are prolly the softest skis available (and I never liked them, even thougn I generaly like soft skis), stocklis are among the stiffest (and I usually like stocklis).

actually the zag golds aren't as soft as the big 84's and the other ones. i've got both zag 84's and stockli dp's (the 121-91-108 ones). very different skis, but both are very fun. if you're into a surfy, cut-back type feel and ski soft snow a lot, the zags are an amazing sensation, but you MUST keep them turning which is part of the fun/challenge. if you're more a crush and kill skier that skis a lot of chopped up stuff and also harder snow sometimes and tend to go straighter, go with the stocklis.
fwiw, i've got the zags in 179 and the dp's in 186.
edit, i guess another way of thinking about it too is that zags are much more a side to side ski and stocklis you're going to work more up and down flexing them.
I forgot to throw in my ski style, sorry guys. I am 6'3" 220 lbs and a very aggresive skier. i like the steeps best, tend to be off piste/ob most of the time. I don't generally do the powder 8's style turns, i am much more wide open ripping high speed gs turns. This ski is going to be my all around ski, so it needs to be able to handle in bounds and some hard pack.
When you say first-gen DP Stormriders, you mean the ones that are about 103-72-95, neon green sidewalls ???
Yeah, thats the one. i think the 00 or the 01's. stiff as a board but SPOOKY responsive and stable when you learn the ski.
Based on how you ski, but not having skied the Zag's, I feel like the new DP is a solid match for you.

I've not skied the Stokli's, but my experience on the bigger sized Zags was generally poor.
I'm about the same size as you, with a similar skiing style. The smaller zags were fun for quick turns in the trees, but the bigger ones were worse in the trees and not really fun at higher speeds out in the open. Too twitchy. Like mentioned already, they like to be turning all the time.
I really wanted to like the Zags, because they are different and rare here. I saw some on sale before I ever skied on them and was really tempted to lunge in. But after a few day on demos, I'm sure glad I didn't buy them.
I know absolutely nothing about Zags (I'm not sure if I've even heard of them before this thread), but if you like the DPs as much as it sounds like, I have trouble imagining you'd like a noodle.
I have the DPs in a 192, and it took me a good 3 seasons (off and on) to really feel like I was skiing them rather than the reverse, and they still remind who's boss every once in a while.
Yeah, definitely go for the stocklis then. You are going to love them. As mentioned above, the shorter zags are great for tight turns etc, but not for what u need. You,re going to 'rip the shit outta things' on the dps! :D
thanks for ALL the help and advice. I think from the input i recieved, I am going to stick with DP's once again. the next question i have is has anyone skied both the 184's and 193's? Since i moved from AK to Washington (inland/spokompton) I need a shorter ski. I am concerned though if i go with the 184's, they may be to short for killing it but i am also concerned that the 193's may be too long for this area. Any comments, ideas, smart remarks?
