Krypts are not necessarily soft
The Kryptons have something I have never seen in another boot that makes them very soft out of the box, but that is not how they are meant to be skied. The split in the back of the lower shell allows it to close or open when the boot is flexed in any direction giving it a lot of flex and softness. This can be controlled or eliminated by whether or not and where you insert the gizmos in the slot. The boots come with two sets of shims and two sets of slot gizmos and you need to use the ones that match each other. I believe Phil has his set up as soft as possible. I use the slot gizmos in their stiffest position (all the way down, contrary to what I said above), but use the softer grey tongue.
I think that unfortunately a lot of people may try them on in the store without the shims (which preload the progressively stiffer tongues) and gizmos inserted and blow them off as being too soft. This is too bad because besides their sweet flex the Krypts let you customize the way they ski, and they can easily be adjusted to be a fairly stiff boot.
