Old footbed, new boot?

Well herro,

Quick question for you boot people. I couldnt find this specific a topic when searched, so apologies if this has come up before...

Is it OK to use old custom footbeds in a new boot? I had customs made 5-6 years ago, but just traded in my toasted boots for some new guys. Is it not a good idea to use the old custom ones (they are the hard kinds, I am no materials engineer, however they seem to be made up of a flexible plastic type of schtuff)? Edit, punctuation...

I transferred my year old custom beds to a new set of boots, and it worked just fine. Mind you they weren't six years old, and I downsized my boots, so there wasn't any discrepency in fit. If your footbeds work for you and you;re getting the same or smaller size boot, it should work fine.

If not, stick them in and try 'em.
be sure to remove the factory footbeds.

Indeed, threw them in and they seemingly fit like a charm... Only downside was the fact that I hit my head really hard my last day last season, so my socks were still balled up in my old boots, and the footbeds need a washin'.

It is the time of year where we put our skis on inside. Haven't done that yet this year. In 96 there was an earthquake while I was in my ski boots in San Francisco. Probably September something. My first earthquake and I was wearing ski boots. My second one I was buying an engagement ring. [/thread drift]

as to the footbeds, works for me - I even moved them from alpine boots to tele boots.

If the foot beds are in good shape it should not be a problem. I have cork beds, and they should last many years; five so far, and just put them in my new Langes. they worked great.

Depends. Pull the liner out and make sure you pull stuff out like adjustable arches etc.

That's key especially in boots like Technicas and Nordicas. They should transfer just fine if the boot is similar to your old ones in width and length. Any changes and you may have to trim them, or if moving up in size get new ones. Your foot can change over time so it is possible that the footbed doesn't put you in the strongest position anymore and then you would also want to consider getting new ones.
