I searched and there are way too many threads to sort through....
anyway, seems like every year utah gets slammed and we dont really get shit around thanksgiving.....we get a week off school this year, and I want to get a crew together and rent a cheap place for the week.
the only times I have gone to utah was on all night drives totally cracked out to chase a storm, so I dont really know anything about the area..
where should we stay....must have a hot tub

Uhm, it dumped last year on Thanksgiving weekend and Utah had less than we did. Three years ago it also dumped on Thanksgiving weekend in CO.
Solitude and Snowbird both have condos but they won't be cheap, you'd probably be better off staying at the bottom of the canyons somewhere, like at the Best Western or the Residence Inn in Sandy unless it really dumps.
Two years ago Thanksgiving was epic, last year it was hardly worth being there, so good snow is far from a certainty.

True. The following weekend was the deepest goodness I've ever skied. Thanksgiving weekend was my ski-instructing experience filled with skiing Deep Powders on hardpack.Quote:

And this past season, they wouldn't open the terrain off Lenawe on an early powder day, but there were tracks ALL over the place from patrol getting theirs. That was rough. I've got a picture of that somewhere.

Last year not so epic. Halloween the year before was crazy deep. Then the two thanksgivings previous to that were so out of hand we were jumping 40-50 foot cliffs...on thanksgiving. :D 3 epic roadtrips from CO.
OK. I'll be the wet blanket. :frown: As good as some of the Thanksgiving's have been, it was only 5 seasons ago that there was zero snow in the Wasatch on Thanksgiving. Not even a dusting in the mountaintops.
Of course, as many will remember, it started snowing that very night. As everyone was sleeping-off their overstuffed bellies the snow started falling at the high elevations. By morning, the snow level had dropped to the valley floor and everything was covered in white. 40" had fallen at Alta overnight.
Brighton and Solly reacted quickly and opened with a lift or two that very day. The dumpage continued nonstop with another 5 feet for 100" in 100 hours in LCC. The Bird opened the following week, on Monday, with limited terrain. Alta opened a week after the storm.
So, unfortunately, if we have that kind of start again, a condo for the week of Thanksgiving won't help you much.

I remember one time back in the mid 90's when Snowbasin didn't open until after new years.

Last season Thanksgiving was opening day at Snowbird and at the time they had very little snow and limited lifts open. If I remember correctly they got creamed with snow three days later on Sunday though.:eek:
Personally, I would rather count on good riding weather in Moab or St. George for that period...the snow thing can be just so iffy. Have fun, whatever you do!
Well if we are reminiscing... I was in Solitude that Thanksgiving weekend. Arrived Wednesday evening just as the snow started falling. Skied Brighton one day with my daughter. The electricity was going on and off all weekend. There was probably a total of 15 people in the village and we did not see all of those. The canyon was open and closed throughout the weekend. On Sunday they opened the canyon just long enough for a string of cars to get down in the afternoon. We mostly hung around and did nothing but watch the snow fall. Truly a magical weekend.Quote:
