Most ripping non spancered skier

Mike Hatrup (spancered skier) was my favorite skier to watch growing up. The guy flat out ripped it up - all aspects of his skiing seemed flawless. And the fact that he seemed just fine skiing in the shadow of Scot Schmidt was notable.

Which brings me to my point. I just finished watching Walls of Freedom, 1999 and Immersion and I've gotta say that Rob Gaffney is, IMO, the most ripping non spancered skier (ok, so he may have picked up a few freebies here and there but all in all he was home grown self supported) that I know about. The guy friggin' rips and was killing it from the early/mid 90's through now.

Given that he went to med school, got married, had a kid along the way and still kills it it most respectable. I had a chance to ski with him at Alta a couple years back and he saw lines and ways into lines that I had never seen. Just following his tracks was an adventure I'll not soon forget.

Not to mention he seems anything but pretentious.

Agreed. I've said on several occasions that Oldtimer is probably the most underrated skier out there. The guy friggen' kills it. The footage of him slaying that 70 degree spine up in North Lake is unreal.

He is ripping. Unfortunately, Gaffney is also a total dick who thinks nothing of getting wasted and waking you up in the middle of the night, demanding scrambled eggs. Avoid, if at all possible.

Funny, I watched 1999 last night on DVD and thought the exact same thing. Of course, I have that thought everytime I watch Robb ski. I even thought of starting a thread stating that I thought he was one of the most underrated skiers I have seen.

He makes those exposed lines look so damn easy. :yourock:

Both Robb and Scott are so underrated that Powder Magazine did an article on this exact same topic and on how underrated they both. It think it was '00 or '01...er, or maybe '02 too lazy to dig it out. :)

They're both high among my most favorite skiers to watch for sure.

I'd vote for me. I'm way better than either Gaffney.
