I'm in dire need of a late-summer ski. Has anyone done Mt Adams or taken the trip down from Muir in the past week or two? How are the suncups?

Word is that the suncups are pretty bad. Here's a TAY report for Muir and the FS website for Adams. I can't imagine Adams is any good at this point. It was getting kind of marginal over a month ago.

A friend went to Muir a few weeks ago and reported horrible, unfun conditions.
On a similar note, the guide books indicate that Muir becomes skiable with the first snows of October, true? I’m new to the PNW.
I think Hood is about the only place around that will be worth hitting this time of year. If you're really jonesing bad, that may be about the only choice, unless you really like skiing on dirt, rocks, micro-craters, etc.

Muir had be sweet after a bit of October snow. After a freak storm you can ski to the p-lot by late October... happened a few years ago. Or it might not snow until November...

Yeah, i know. I'm scared. Sierrra gets consistent dumps, we here in the PNW seem to go one year on, one year off. Global warming and all that....
After last year (epic),I'm crossing my fingers. I was skiing Alpental in late march for crying out loud.

You might want to ask around about Baker, there are occasional late season TRs from that mountain, although you'll have to at least think about glacier travel/crevasses. Ask at turns-all-year.
Now that I think about it, I recall climbing glacier peak in August and finding super good corn on the Sitkum glacier. Something else to think about, depending on your willingness to hike. Also some crevasse issues.
