What have you guys been reading?

My summer reading list has included:
The Da Vinci Code. Wanted to see what the hype was about. I shouldn't have bothered.

Seven Years in Tibet. This was a decent look at Tibet and the Dalai Llama pre exile. I would recomend it.

A River Runs Through it. I finally got around to reading this. Now I want to learn how to fly fish.

Hells Angels. Hunter S. Thopsons year with the biker gang. A good read, although I would have liked to hear more about Hunter and his encounters with the gang and less about what was reported by other journalists about the gang.

Cracked. About Drew Pinsky's experiences treating drug addicts. It gave some insight into a. the mind of an addict and b. the workings of codependents. A little on the dull side but a quick read with some valuable wisdom.

Currently Reading:
Mafia Dynasty: The Rise and Fall of the Gambino Crime Family. I just started it yesterday, so not much to report, but enjoying it so far.

I also picked up Fear and Loathing for the beach next week.

What are the other mags reading? Anything good?

I read the DaVinci Code also. It was ok...I liked it.

I also read Angels and Demons. The symbolism in Angels and Demons is a lot better but it is really far fetched, even more so than the Da Vinci code IMO.

I just read The Wasp Factory it was really fucked up in a good way... other summer reads: Heat by Bill Buford, which is a non fiction about working a season in Mario Batali's kitchen, The Trouble with Islam, by a Muslim feminist, a bunch of guidebooks on Argentina, The One Percent Doctrine, Rouge Trader, and The Shipping News by Ann Prouxe. None of them have lived up to The Power of One, which is still the best book I've read in the recent past.

My list so far has included:

The Sheltering Sky by Paul Bowles- americans in Africa after WWII, very good.

The Last Season by Eric Blehem- About a bc ranger in Sequoia/Kings NP who goes missing, very good too.

Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte- Not my favorite but I have made it my mission to read all the classics in my library that I have been putting off.

Under the Black Flag by David Cordingly- About pirates, a good read. Thanks Warthog

Just started The Hours and since the next week in vacation for me I will also bring Possession by A.S Byatt and maybe The Tempting of America by Robert Bork(about constitutional law) but it is kinda dense for vacation reading so who knows.

Language in Thought and Action by SI Hayakawa

All the Lee Child books (again, and again)

Haruki Murakami still amazes me every time, working my way through his books for the first time, just finished reading Norwegian Wood

Finally got round to finishing the Dark Materials trilogy, excellent stuff

I watched the Da Vinco Load, does that count?

In Patagonia, Bruce Chatwin. Pretty interesting, good road trip kinda story, just starting it. Cool blend of culture and history of an area. Definitely sparking the flame to go to SA one of these days.

Iron John, Robert Bly. Good stuff, probably will read it again here shortly. Basically a book about boys growing to men, father-figures, etc. But not touchy-creepy-feely like Dr. Phil.

Steppenwolf - Hesse - Hesse is always good

The Gentleman's Companion V2 : Being an Exotic Drinking Book - Charles H Baker, Jr. - the author was commissioned in the 1930's to travel around the world for a magazine and record local drinks. He produced a list of 267 drinks, each with story. The flavour and flavours of a world gone.

Just finished A Life In A Year - a great account about the infantry experience during the Vietnam War. Now I'll probably read Moby Dick or some Vonnegut again - I have a hard time finding decent fiction.

I've read a dog training book, Into the Wild and a couple of Harry Potter books (again) this summer. I'm currently reading The Da Vinci Code. Personally I think it's a pretty good book. Not the best book I've ever read, but enough to keep me interested.

I did just pull out A Sand County Almanac again and read a chapter after recommending that book on another message board.

Just getting into Shake hands with the devil by L.Gen Romeo Dallaire. It's about how the UN peacekeeping mission in Rwanda failed.
