For Giro Flint SC wearers ...

.... tired of your visor working itself loose and not staying down when skiing??

Thanks to Mr. Altagirl's ingenious mind, problem solved. I was thinking of getting a mini-snowboard binding clip and attaching one end to my helmet and one end to my visor. Then if you wanted to raise it up just "un-click" it and then to lower just "click" it down. Mr. AG suggested why not use velcro?? I thought, hmmmm. Put said velcro on last night at very back end of visor in the middle (where the visor "fingers" out), cut to shape and I'll be damned if didn't work and you can't even tell its on there even on close inspection.

Schaweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!! No more visor popping up at high speeds!!! :)

Note: could also eliminate by carrying allen wrench around with you all day and tightening as needed (but it still could pop up at random). Nothing like a mini-sail popping up to wafe your head around. :D

Can you still slide the visor up to put your goggles up?

Also, you haven't lived until you've tighted down the visor so it won't flip up at Mach Loony, and then the whole damn helmet flips up and you finish straight-lining NoName peeping through the two little holes in your chin guard. :eek:

Not a big deal really. When I get going that fast I get scared and just close my eyes.

Let me help: you had a sweet .758 seconds in Junk Show. I just ponied up for it. The rest was a little dissapointing, I thought, relative to The Trip, but the Alta seg was siiiiiiiiiiiick.

hahah I had that happen to me a week or so ago, I forgot to tighten it down and it was pissing me off. I noticed on my friends the screws are a flathead, but you need a hex key for the newer ones, which I have..I think its newer atleast, because I had to special order the bastard because i needed the xxl:o

I'm pissed off at Giro and Backcountrystore right now.

My helmet arrived with one visor bolt stripped out so I can't tighten or loosen it. So I put a tiny rubber "o" ring on the other side to snug it down. After a day of skiing (shoving it up for goggles on the chair etc) the visor is cracked at the hole where the bolt goes.

So now I need a new visor but there's no way to remove the old one. Backcountrystore blew off my email and haven't gotten around to calling Giro yet.

You guys with the flipping visors are funny. PhUnk, you should fill Xover in on the backwards helmet style. Maybe it will help his switch riding.

Related story: I lived in Southern Italy a long time ago and decided I needed a street motorcycle (I've always been a dirt guy). I only had a motocross helmet and had spent all my cash on the motorcycle; I figured the motocross helmet would work fine. I head out to the Autostrada right away to see how fast my new stead will go. Well, let me tell you; at about 80 mph, a motocross helmet (with a big visor) will start to raise up. At about 115 mph, the helmet pulls so hard that the chin strap will get stuck in your mouth and all you can see is out of the mouth piece vents (about 1-2 mm each; I had to pull over to get the helmet back in it's proper position). I'm fairly certain this is why road helmets are very smooth and aerodynamic. Ever see a cool visor on a downhill racer?? (don't get me wrong, my Giro has a visor). See you guys in line at Wildcat.

I've had the visor pulling on my head while hauling and gone blind as well. Since then I've put all new bolts in a lot of the sockets and haven't had any more probs. I traded out for flathead bolts (home depot, less than a buck) rather than the alan's. Also, the only times I had that problem were when I was using the old visor that was prone to fracturing. I think it has less air holes and causes more wind resistence. I traded out to the shorter black rubbery visor and have never had any probs with wind resistance or fracturing. I cracked my old visor twice. It was easy to repair and looked sick as hell with wire metal stitching, but the black rubber visor is the way to go.

The visor is actually for a different lid. I took my helmet into a shop and pulled visors off and on until I found one that worked. The shop I was at wouldn't sell me the visor from the lid I had pulled it off so I went online to look for places to buy Giro visors. Sports Den was the only place that would sell me one and they sold it and shipped it to me for $10.

Thanks MD, my visor has started to crack should explode any day now.

My advice is for all you beaters to stop landing on your face. :p


PS. A little Loc-tite will stop the screws from backing loose.
