trying to stay outta jail here, and my doc can't seem to prescribe me a painkiller that doesn't show up as an opiate on my piss tests. any help would be greatly appreciated, with a bulging disc in my back tylenol just doesn't do the job. thank you very much.
I believe if a doctor prescribed it for you, you have an excuse for failing the test. Show them the prescription and you *should* be in the clear.Quote:

First of all, I am a doctor, but I don't prescribe alot of drugs. I do have some subspecialty training in back problems.
As far as drugs go. You gotta alot of options, and opiods are not a great drug for back pain anyways. Right now, alot of docs are prescribing some of these newer NSAID's (drug class of motrin). Vioxx is real popular. Also, alot of Neurontin is being used with success. Neither is an opiod.
If, however, this is an ongoing problem that is caused by a bad disc, especially if the disc is pushing on a nerve root (pain down your leg) you should also consider an Epidural Steroid Injection. Basically, it is a simple procedure of injecting an anti-inflammatory steroid and lidocaine into the space around your nerve roots to calm down inflammation.

Anti-inflammatories should not be a problem with drug tests especially if you have a Rx. Like lph said Vioxx, Celebrex and just about any other Rx NSAID should be of some help. Depending on how bad the bulge/herniation is talk to you doc about some therapy. Estim, stretching, strengthening can sometimes reduce the pain.
Maybe you should contact your PO about your situation first and go from there.

The judicial system does not have the authority to make you live in pain. Remember that, and work from there.
that sucks about the bulging disc. I had the same problem this fall and all I took was vioxx. worked for me.
Orudis (ketoprofin).
What I usually do is take a loading dose of 3x the recommended, then twice the dose, timed per instructions. The over the counter dosage is about half the standard prescription, works great for me every time.
