Weird -- there are only 10 messages in there and I just cleaned it out last week. Oh well, cleaned again.
I made the same mistake, go to sent items and clean them out as well.
Clean out your "sent item" side too, if you didn't already, I think they both count as part of your limit.
edit: Damn, too slow.
