Also, why's the final in Berlin? I thought Munich was hosting? Damned Nazi stadia...

The obvious answer is that Berlin is the capial of Germany, a very nationalistic country. The semis are in Munich. The Bayern's are, and have always been the 'second son" of the Fatherland.
Why the hell is it not on here? I had to watch it on Copa Mondial in spanish- really gave it an international feel, I s'pose.
Go Brasilia
AND ENGLAND, BUT I WON'T OPENLY ROOT FOR YOU, SO YOU WILL WIN.
Yeah but isn't the host city Munich? That's where the opening event was.Quote:

Think of Munich as the LA of Germany - it's (arguably) the main cultural center, whereas Berlin would be a combination of NY and DC. Not as "hip," but far more important politically.
munich is hardly considered hip by the hip people. they all moved to berlin last year. ;)Quote:

Tippster: well, i wouldn't know first hand as i can't really say i am part of that particular scene. i don't have time for rioting as i dance amongst flowers on bavarian meadows in my dirndl all day. there seems to have been less media coverage of the big city horrors lately. which is a shame really, the bild zeitung does deliver such good drama. Gewalt steht auf dem Stundenplan!
so you grew up in solln when it was cool to live near grünwald?
135 years of accumulated angst weighs heavily on the teutonic soul :(Quote:

Kreuzberg's other distinctive trait is its alternative culture, which mostly originated in the 1980s. The traditional yearly May 1 demonstrations turned into violent riots in 1987, which, for reasons not entirely clear, continue every year until today. Many attempts have been made in recent years to prevent the demonstrations from turning violent, but neither police tactics of de-escalation nor a "hard hand" policy have been successful at stopping looting, burning of cars, and smashing of shop windows – all of which have almost become accepted as a yearly force of nature.
Why is Gruenwald uncool now? There used to be a bitchin' Beer garden there.
oh my, that's what you are talking about? yes, that's a treasured tradition. i thought you meant the recent trouble in the schools, to the point where teachers refuse to teach for fear of being attacked by their students.Quote:
