Front Range Cliff Jumping Spots?

Back home in the NE, I used to go cliff jumping (into water) all the time. Haven't gone in nearly 2 years. Anyone know of a place on the CO front range to go? It's gonna be a long, hot summer if I don't find a good swimming hole to hurl my carcass into.

I know of a few spots on the Ark, Colorado and Blue rivers but nothing along the front range.

Gross Resevoir. Drive up Flagstaff Road (Baseline in Boulder) until the end. Hike downhill until you hit the cliffs. It's technically illegal to jump there, but I've only seen one boat "partrolling" the water. It's usually a shit show up there, but if you catch it on an empty day you'll have a lot of fun. There isn't anything over 40 feet at that spot, but I've heard of bigger cliffs on the east end of the lake closer to the dam so that might be worth exploring.

Be prepared for COLD water though.

There are a couple spots in Blue Lake in IPW. Just off to the left when you reach the lake, there are some cliffs you can safely jump off. They're not huge or anything, but if I remember correctly they were about 15-20 feet high. The water is ice cold, I'm sure.

Here's another shot of Blue Lake on the opposite side of the trail, in front of Toll. The you can see a spot just to the right of center- looks pretty sweet. I'm not sure how deep the lake is right there though.

not on the front range, but Green Mountain Reservoir has a good huck near the dam.

for some reason I remember theres a trail near Castle Rock where theres a rock you can supposedly jump off into a river, although not reccomended. Forget the name but im sure you can google it.

Horsetooth use to have some great spots. Or drive to the cliff jumping capital of the world, Lake Powell.

Cliff jumping is great, but tubing down boulder creek with a 12 pack is also lots of fun. Not as exciting unless your drunk friend bounces off a rock and splits his ass open, but still a good time. Oh, and bring waterballoons for the people on hte shore.

Boulder creek with a 12 pack? With all of those drops I don't know where you would find time to down a beer, but I like the way you think. :D

Tubing indeed blows any Gross Resevoir cliff jumping out of the water, especially with the creek running as high and fast as it is right now.

this is best at high water, wearing a pair of jeans and no pfd. when you flip, make sure to stand up in the current, mid-channel.
we need to thin the herd out.:wink:

there's a big cliff jump into the poudre outside of ft. collins.

Also if you drive up boulder canyon, there is a spot to jump into boulder creek, nothing to big, range is only 20-40 ft., but you are jumping into a small area so that makes it fun. we always hit it up after a day of biking in nederlands.

My favorite cliff jumping areas are outside of aspen though. Fish bowl and lincoln creek, always tons of people hanging out and all different sizes of cliffs to jump off.

I was wondering when a boater was going to let these tubers know that they are the snowlerbladers of the water.

Is that up Independence Pass? We used to drive there in the Summers from Vail to go bouldering and then huck to cool off.... Some really neat rock formations to launch off. Nothing too big, but big enough... and cold.

albeit gay, at least snowlerblades are reasonably safe. I can't tell you how many Darwin award-winning candidates I've seen on Boulder Creek, Golden play park and the Blue.

blue jeans: check
cotton-t: check
no helmet: check
no restrictive pfd: check
at least 6 beers in the tank: check

*laugh* I tell them if they do that they win a darwin award then watch their excited whoops and hollers as they go off.

On the real though, I prefer up near Lyons. Some nice chilling out up there, not as fast, not as many rocks.
