My cable company DVR has a few ports, USB, IE1399, others too. Can I just hook up an IE1399 wire to my laptop, copy a show then burn it to DVD? Do I need some special software to do this? Thanks, I'm not a computer geek so I don't know much about this stuff.

IIRC, someone has instructions posted on hooking up a Motorola DVR to a Mac Mini somewhere.

before you get too into it, make sure that the ports on the DVR are active, they arent on certain brand's models.
