What did you all do with your brace, etc??

Pre & Post-surgery, I was able to borrow crutches, so that worked out well.....

Still have my foam immobilizer brace & am not sure what to do with it.....If I get hurt again, I'm sure I'll get another one.....

What did you all do with your braces, etc once you no longer needed them??

Put it on the shelf. I have two of them. And oddly enough, that's the one thing with my second ACL surgery that my insurance would NOT cover. It took months and months of fighting over it because they wanted me to pay $450 for it. (And they didn't pay for the first one either - the Army did. AND they had no problem paying $1000 or so for my functional brace. Go figure.) So now I make sure I bring in my foam immobilizer to the hospital so they can put that on and don't charge me for another one.

Plus. an immobilizer is a good thing to have around if you hurt yourself on the weekend and can't get in to see your doc for a couple of days.

when i tore my acl, i first skied down the hill, then drove myself home. made a sandwich and flipped on the TV. i decided to wait until the end of a college basketball game (UMass was crushing Temple and we dont get to see that enough lately). then drove myself to the hospital.

Try a locked meniscus tear that's excruciating to move even a centimeter in either direction. An immobilizer becomes a good thing when you have to wait a couple days to get it fixed.

nah, i think i'll pass on that. thanks though.

I got really lucky with my acl. clean tear of acl, no other damage. and that was bad enough.

Try 1/3 of your hamstring pulled up to about mid thigh. It stung a bit when those muscles fired...

I still have mine around... just in case.

Tried it! Not fun.

That immobilizer would have been great for the 18 or so hours I had to wait for surgery. And to think I refused the pre-op meds they offered me! Didn't get much sleep that night.
