Im getting really sick of never having pictures of skiing....
as of now I have a hyper-ghetto 2MP camera that takes like 5 seconds to take one picture.
Im looking to get a small camera in the 4-5MP range that takes sequences and fast pictures so I can actually catch some action.....want to get it on Ebay and not spend alot of money...
what you guys got?
i don't know of any 4-5mp cameras that are fast and can take sequences.
for the price, the canon digital rebel slr is fucking sick.
The new Canon Powershot IS series is pretty good. Super fast continuous with unlimited length (well limited by whatever card you have in there). They have been getting rave reviews. The only qualm I have heard and agree with would be that the LCD is a tad small, but otherwise very solid.
The Powershot IS2 can be had for under $300 I believe now that the IS3 has been released. The IS2 is 5MP and the IS3 is 6MP IIRC.

If you're just looking for an el-cheapo camera to replace your current one I can suggest (as dirtybryan) the Canon PowerShot S2. It's got 12x optical zoom, which does wonders in the mountain, and has image stabilization which is reasonably good:

if you want to jump a generation and go directly to the 7-10mp the Sony Cybershots come with less zoom, but Carl Zeiss lenses:

neither is high quality, they just do a good job at the amateur level
edit: forgot to mention, the powershot has the ability to snap full-size pictures while recording a movie, something that i find really useful for those times when you only have one good chance at filming a run
If you want full control, Canon A610. End of story.
If you really want to jump into the deep end you could go with the Canon EOS digital rebel(300d) it has a 3.5 FPS and more features than you could shake a stick at. plus interchangeable lenses are nice to get that reach(check out canon's EF 70-300

i just got a canon powershot A700($300) in the mail yesterday for a more compact camera to fit in my pocket when i dont care about taking action shots with my 20D. Im heading to RMNP with it this week so ill post some pics with it as soon as i can. The A620 is also small and good and a little cheaper too($250). Best of all they run on AA's so if your rechargeables run out somehwere, just pull the AA's out of your headlamp or whatever and your good to go. Havent played with the A610 but it looks about the same and can be had for 175 or so refurbished from some places.
I would recommend the canon sd cameras. I have the sd500. Its small, durable and take pics fast enough to get some good shots.
Also, the Panasonic Lumix DMC FZ5 is pretty sweet. I am a total photo jong, but it has a good amount of manual control but the simple settings are sweet. 5MP and 12X optical, I carried it in my chest pocket all year. It has excellent sequencing for its class and the image stabilization works great.
I usually ski solo, but here is a kayaking shot I took a couple days ago. Check out the detail in the water splashes. This is on "sports" mode, one of many settings if you are too incompetant (like me) to mess with manual controls.
