NSR: can I get in trouble?

I was just driving home and went around a lady who was stopped for some reason when the light was green. As I go to pull in front of her and into the correct lane, she speeds up not letting me in(I have my blinker on). So I speed up and cut her off with intent to not have to make a right turn. She lays on the horn for a steady 5 seconds and seems pissed.
While shes driving behind me she wips out her camera and takes pics of my plate and proceeds to follow me home. I pick up on this and decide to park next to a different house. So she takes pictures of the house im parked next to. This crazy lady seemed pissed, but what can she do about it? By reporting my plates, can I get in trouble with the police or do I already have to have previous complaints?

Well played on the diversion. I don't think they can charge you with anything without other witneses to corroberate whatever you did? If all you did was cut her off what they gonna do? I think most you would be in for is a warning from an officer, and that's if you live in po-duck, cause I doubt city cops are gonna do shit.

At least in CA anyone can report anyone else to the DMV for pretty much anything. Sometimes the DMV will send you a letter warning you that someone reported you. Unless the person reporting you had some kind of jurisdictional authority, however, nothing else will come of it.

You are just fine. No way will anything happen to you. Nice diversionary tactics too.

If the police do call, you should make up some story about how you did not break any laws, but were trying to look into the lady's car because it appeared she was trafficking illegal immigrants and contraband across state lines.

I can't answer unless see pics of the crazy lady.

I think you should track her down and kill her.

You should have followed her home after she started driving away... or you should have led her to a strip club.

Of course it would be best to hear from a maggot Perry Mason. But the way that you tell the story, you didn't brake any laws. She did. The light was green, a car was stopped in front of you, it's reasonable and legal to pass. Her behavior was classic road rage, with reckless endangerment. You actually followed one of the CHP's "Safety Tips For Dealing with Aggressive Drivers," "Never drive home if you're being followed by an angry driver. You don't want them to know where you live."

You can be sure that the cops have seen it a zillion times. It's America today. Asshole gets into their car, pickup, or Urban Assault Vehicle and feels tough, and drives around as if they own the road. Asshole is passed. Asshole goes berserk with road rage.

The psychology might be that I'm an upstanding housewife, and he's a young punk. Or that I just drove 4 hours in my new 50K SUV, as seen on television, to get in my 10 days a year of "expert" skidding, I know how to drive better than whoever's in front of me. Or that I'm a local in my badass, way jacked up pickup truck, I'm not gonna let some tourist in his 150K sports car pass me; as described in the following links about a Tahoe incident from last summer, where the verdict just came in.

You sure about that? I don't know enough facts, but it sounds like, from the description, that the OP went in an inappropriate lane of travel (turn lane? oncoming traffic?). He then must have crossed over a solid line at some point. Furthermore, once he was in that lane, and she started driving, technically he was probably supposed to yield. Of course, she's not supposed to be stopped in the travel lane at a green light. :)

I'm not saying the OP did anything wrong in the real world of driving, but I think he probably did "brake" some laws.

If you get in trouble, your argument should be that she was driving and taking pictures at the same time. That's gotta be illegal.

True Story:

About 2 decades ago the Governor of MD, William Donald Shafer, was being driven somewhere by his chauffeur. The guy cut off some lady in his limo, and she gave him the finger. Shafer wrote down her License Plate #, used his powers to find out her name and address, and wrote her a letter. The full extent of the letter was:

"Dear Mrs ______,

Please know that the ugliness of your gesture was only superceded by that of your face.

Sincerely Yours,
Gov. WDS"

I've had two instances where I've called in license plate #s and names to the po-po:
1)after almost getting mowed over by somebody in a parking lot who must have just gotten his drivers permit
2) when I had the home address/name/# of somebody who stole my bank acct # and bought plane tickets to jamaica
Guess what! Nothing happened. Not a damn thing.
