lazy ass illegals

So, the big ol Great American Boycott is coming. Are you prepared? It could fizzle like the Million Man March, but it looks like there should be some pretty substantial protests and business closings.

If the immigrants and their children care so much about their cause, why do they plan these events on school and work days?

I'd respect their opinion and cause a lot more if they were willing to take some of their OWN time off to protest/celebrate their heritage. I stood for a lot of things I didn't really care about back when I knew I could miss a couple of classes (or work) and get away with it.

What, if any, impact on politics and public opinion will the Great American Boycott produce?

I think that they plan things like this on school and work days to try to have more attention drawn onto themselves and to create more of an impact. Not sure though. I'm not Mexican :)

There are a lot of second thoughts about it in the Latino community. But the point is to show how vital immigrants are to the economy. If all immigrants stayed home, the absence would be pretty noticeable.


However, it won't be as effective since not everyone will stay home.

I really know better than to get in on one of these political discissions, but, oh well:

About 1/2 the births in Jackson Hole each month are to illegal aliens. They pay nothing for these top tier services, much worse they expect to pay nothing.

I worked with about ten Hispanics last summer. Not one, mind you NOT ONE had a green card, all were here, admittedly, illegally.

Their children were in the schools, one wife was having a baby, and the clincher- none of them had car insurance!!!

Would the pulse of the nation have risen to this tempo is this wasn't that case in every community in America.

Disclaimer: I do know Mexican immigrants who have come to Jackson to live. But that is the exception rather than the norm.

I do not classify these illegal aliens as "lazy ass immigrants"

I can tell you the impact that it will have at my company. If you don't show up for work without giving prior notice and have a reason like this you are fired. This ILLEGAL immigrant topic is ridiculous! We run a company that could hire illegal immigrants and don't, yet we have to compete with companies that do break the law and have a lower overhead because of it.

Not living in the US, this confuses me. If someone is in the country illegally, how do they get their kids into school?

I don't see how on one hand you're going to call them lazy, while on the other say they're taking people's jobs.

They're here because people are hiring. They can't get in the country legally, so they won't be able to participate in society by getting car and health insurance. Unless they break more laws by stealing someone else's identity.

If they walk out en masse next week in NY, forget about eating out (who will cook?) ordering in (who will deliver?) keeping your place clean (are yuppies going to scrub that tub?) or any construction job that includes painting, roofing, dry wall installation, demolition...

Yeah, right... lazy.

There are laws here about truancy. If your kid is school aged they must go to school or you have to provide proof of home schooling. Most end up in the public school system.

My opinion may be in the minority but I think we should let illegals file for citizenship and let them go through normal channels to become citizens.They are here and unless we have the stomach to start sending box car loads of people back, make them legal so they can work in decent paying jobs,carry insurance and pay social security. I have hired illegals to do many construction jobs. For the most part, they are the hardest working folks I know.

That said, this country needs to end immigration now, close the doors and end it. The world population is exploding. We are screwing ourselves off this planet. if we hope to maintain any sort of quality of life, population growth needs to stop pronto. Harsh? probably but 30 years from now when there is standing room only it will be too late.

I wouldn't say they're lazy. In fact they usually all show up at a job site and roof a house, frame a house, lay out an entire golf course worth of sod (I saw this with my own eyes) in one day. The problem I have is that they don't pay taxes, contractors hire these guys especially when they get behind and need a job done fast and cheap. It doesn't effect me because I'm no longer in landscaping or carpentry, but all my friends are, and that drives their wages down and takes work away from local families who really need the money.

My mom is a nurse, has been for 25 years, she says the same thing about all the services they expect to get from the hospital for free. And the hospital is required to have translators on every floor of the hospital at all times so that they can explain every proceedure and diagnosis the doctor or staff has to communicate. My sister works for head start in St. Louis, she speaks fluent Spanish so her job is secure, she says that 60-70% of their children come from families that are here illegally and expect local schools and social service programs to cater to them.

The lazy comment was more in reference to those (especially the millions of high school students) who have seen it fit to play hookey time after time, rather than taking their own time out to stand for something they believe in.

regarding jobs... never complained about them taking people's jobs. if I lived in poverty in Mexico, I'd make every effort to get to the US in a heartbeat so I can provide for myself and my family. I really can't blame a guy for just trying to take care of the basic needs of him and his.

Businesses should face much stiffer penalties for hiring illegals. What pisses me off is that not only do americans suffer when illegals are hired, the illegals are being ripped off, too. They're being paid less than what they're worth. Until businesses are held accountable, the poor and desperate will continue to move here, legally or otherwise. Who can blame them?

I have at least one customer a day who declines our install services, buys the materials and says flat out, "No thanks, I'll just hire some Mexicans to do it."

Bush is right, we can't just deport 11m people en masse, it just isn't going to work.

I personally think that there needs to be some sort of punishment for those who have entered and stayed illegally.

I think that if you can be registered as a guest, prove employment within 6 months, not have a criminal record other than illegal immigration, pay taxes and any provable back-taxes, have insurance, etc etc, then you can get in line behind every single other person who is legally waiting to enter the country or file for a green card.

Just because you are here doesn't mean you get to jump to the front of the line. In the mean time, you still pay taxes, learn the language and don't get to vote.

Edit: And add what Lone Star said about illegal hiring practices. If we can lower the amount of illegal hiring that occurs then we can reduce the appeal to illegal immigrate.

I'm about to plan a little trip with my family and extended family, and I would like to ask you to assist me.

I'm going to walk across the border from the U.S. into Mexico, and I need to make a few arrangements. I know you can help with this.

I plan to skip all the legal stuff like visas, passports, immigration quotas and laws. I'm sure they handle those things the same way you do here.

So, would you mind telling your buddy, President Vicente Fox, that I'm on my way over? Please let him know that I will be expecting the following:

1. Free medical care for my entire family.

2. English-speaking government bureaucrats for all services I might need, whether I use them or not.

3. All government forms need to be printed in English.

4. I want my kids to be taught by English-speaking teachers.

5. Schools need to include classes on American culture and history.

6. I want my kids to see the American flag flying on the top of the flag pole at their school with the Mexican flag flying lower down.

7. Please plan to feed my kids at school for both breakfast and lunch.

8. I will need a local Mexican driver's license so I can get easy access to government services.

9. I do not plan to have any car insurance, and I won't make any effort to learn local traffic laws.

10. In case one of the Mexican police officers does not get the memo from Pres. Fox to leave me alone, please be sure that all police officers speak English.

11. I plan to fly the U.S. flag from my house top, put flag decals on my car, and have a gigantic celebration on July 4th. I do not want any complaints or negative comments from the locals.

12. I would also like to have a nice job without paying any taxes, and don't enforce any labor laws or tax laws.

13. Please tell all the people in the country to be extremely nice and never say a critical word about me, or about the strain I might place on the economy.

14. Eventually I want to be able to vote and have all election materials and notices sent to me in English with Spanish as a second language..

I know this is an easy request because you already do all these things for all the people who come to the U.S. from Mexico.

I am sure that Pres. Fox won't mind returning the favor if you ask him nicely. However, if he gives you any trouble, just invite him to go quail hunting with your V.P.

My perspective is limited because I only really know about the Hispanics I teach. But, I've found that the Hispanics I teach are INCREDIBLY driven and are most definitely NOT the type to be ditching school time after time for unknown reasons. One girl I taught last year came to the US first in 6th grade not knowing a word of English. Her parents still hardly know any English. She took it upon herself to basically learn the language. She would spend extra hours both in and out of school learning English. She is probably the most driven student I have ever met in my life. And last year she graduated as validictorian of her class with a full scholorship to ANY school she wanted to attend in Colorado. Now, I may live in a little isolated community where that is the norm whereas elsewhere it is not... but I thought it should be known.

Car insurance is a private sector, government mandated requirement. Being an illegal alien is of no importance in obtaining these services.

My firends didn't purchase it because they didn't have to. If they got busted, they simpily would pay the fines, or leave for anothet community.

Who's going to pick lettuce, broccoli, asparagus, and strawberries in Salinas / Soledad / King City etc. if the US makes everyone legal, and mandates that they have to be paid minimum wage.

I doubt that Dole, or T&A pay any of their pickers what they would be required to pay a legal US resident. How would they sell an $8 head of iceberg?

Ummm... yeah it is, and no we couldn't. The fact that for "normal" Americans to say, pick lettuce or dry cars at the carwash or whatever you would have to pay them more JUST TO COVER TAXES. Who does this extra expense get passed on to? The consumer. Ergo the $8 head of lettuce is very very real.

Calling these folks lazy is just stupid. If they were lazy they'd have stayed at home.

This would posted on my bulletin board if I even heard one of my employees breath a word of recognizing May DAy. Doubly so if I employed illegals.

Your post makes a good point....

I'm not against a guest worker program, in fact that is the most rationale idea I've heard in this whole debate. If we can't find people to pick lettuce than we should let American companies recruit people at the border where we can document them, take their picture, and give them a photo ID so we can keep track of them. I'm not against immigration or foreign labor, I'm against people trespassing in our country, taking a $hit on our lawn and then leaving us to clean it up.
Everyone is always worried about the cost of everything from walmart crap, to the price of gas, the price of lettuce or whatever. One day we're gonna wake up and we'll have a country that can't build or manufacture anything, can't grow our own food, can't harvest our own natural resources and we'' all be working at Target for minimum wage, but we won't even be able to afford to buy stuff there because our currency will be worthless, the Chinese will own everything and they will control the world {end rant}.

being and currently residing in Texas. all i can say is that they do a shitload of the work downhere and are underpaid for it

i am all for making everyone who wants to put forth the effort to become legal, legal.... and deporting those who dont want to become legal

this woud raise minimum wage for all, and boost the economy by putting more money into the hands of the public and taking money away from the buisnessmen.
