I skied! (<3months after breaking femur)

Well I skied today. I've had the urge the past few weeks because my leg feels great, but I just didn't want to risk it. Today I just decided to go for it. The first run scared the shit outta me. Everytime I turned right I really tensed up. By the second run I felt fine. I don't want to risk it much more since I'm planning on moving to whistler in june for the summer and I really don't want to ruin those plans.

Last year I was totally ready to ski at the end of April after my ACL Recon in January. I didn’t have the balls for it though.

That groomer beats the Lazy Boy anyday. Glad to hear that leg is feeling good. The nice thing about femurs is that there isn't much complication with a joint, like ankles or knees. Take it easy man!

Good work on the recovery. I remember when you first posted about your broken leg and I told you about my buddy who skied the backcountry one year and a week after his accident. Here's a pic of my friend getting 5500 vert after 8 miles of skinning. He broke both femurs, one compound, in an avalanche and was in a wheel chair for four months. Swingnar gettin' after it.

That's amazing. I broke my tib/fib in February of last year and am only now 80% at best. Do not get too confident, definitely take it easy out there.

and a chance to put out there something i've realized in recent times:
we are all of us here so, so far above the average, both physically and emotionally/mentally when it comes to our bodies, that standard 'expected recovery' times given by doctors almost always turn out to be massively overestimated.
i broke my pelvis, shoulder, etc. in september, and was told it would be 6 months before i was doing much of anything. just like Art, i was skiing in 3 months, and have put in about 60 days since then.
the drive we all have to not just get back to normal, but to be stronger than ever, seems to make almost any injury change from a life-altering event to a minor setback so quickly that we confuse our friends families doctors and selves.
so positive vibes for anyone currently injured - it's gonna come back so much faster than you think.
