I appreciate the link, but I think I'm too lazy to sit at home and construct an antenna made out of a stew can. Looking to buy something a little more professional. Anyone?Quote:

I figured if you are frugal enough to borrow your neighbor's wifi, this would be right up your alley. Personally, I like building stupid shit like this. That Cantenna is actually not a bad deal at $50, especially since it includes that sweet mini-tripod.Quote:

I would think the auxilliary antenna would have to transmit better as well to get your signal back to the access point.
The company I used to work for had a client that needed access to an SMTP relay for spamming purposes. They pointed one of these high end antennas at a nearby building top and piggybacked onto someone else's network, and hammered their SMTP server. :)
Just wire up your avy probe to your existing wifi antenna. Just ask Summit for directions.
Just go knock on his door and demand to be hard wired. Don't forget to steal beer from him and syphon gas from his car.

Or just pay for your own internet?
I have seen these in use- basically a directional antenna with a signal booster if needed. I assume the neighbor is in on your sharing -so if you need the signal boost it would be something he would place near his router or looking out the window closest to you (and of course you are not breaking the terms of service with the ISP).
Select one of the HAI DIRECTIONAL models that most fits the distance and set-up you are working under.

One of the guys in my lab is using an old modified satellite dish to pull a signal from off campus. It's got some pretty impressive range. Driving by it looks kinda retarded since it's the only dish on the street pointing toward the ground (they live on a hill).
One of those linksys, signal repeaters might be a good idea. Obviously placing it in your house as close to his room as possible.
