The American Alpine Club will support the documentary film on the life of the renowned climber, Fred Beckey. Fred is making an attempt on an unclimbed peak in Asia in the spring of 2006.

Fred Beckey is foremost a climber. He is also an author, lecturer, historian and preservationist. Fred’s contributions include authoring many books on mountain geography, mountain history, climbing guidebooks and most recently his historical account "Range of Glaciers." He has presented hundreds of slide shows from Harvard to the University of Texas all with an emphasis of educating the public on the importance of preserving the alpine environment. He has climbed countless first ascents all over the world and his will and drive to continue to climb remote mountain ranges is incessant. He continues to inspire climbers and mountaineers with his passion for adventure and his love of exploration.

Fred Beckey’s life story will be told in a powerful, inspiring film which will give a unique and special opportunity to span generations and help preserve his incredible life. Through a Child’s Eyes Productions will produce a film which will act as an important historical document, and at the same time tell the raw and impassioned story of a unique human being.

Donations to the AAC for this project will be matched by one of Beckey’s most influential apprentices, Yvon Chouinard, of up to a total of $7,000 towards the end goal of $30,000. Donations of $500 and up will receive a signed copy of the completed film.

Fred Beckey is the friggin' mang - period. WAY ahead of his time - the Alex Lowe of the 50's-70's.

I still drool over his West Ridge route on Prusik Peak - it's near the top of my tick list.

I know someone already said it but fred still doing FAs?? At 82 im hoping i can still work a remote control. Incredible guy. Hope no-one lets him drive there!

Still in the works. They played the trailer at the Tahoe Film Fest and it was mindblowing and humbling, to say the least. Beckey was in attendance and the place completely BLEW UP when he was introduced. 85 years old and ripping harder than anyone else on earth at any age. If (when) this thing is released, it's going to be bigger than life.

Looked on the website and couldn't find the trailer any idea if it is on the internet at all?

The film is very much in the works. It is a passion project for us and is being made on a very small budget which means we can only work on it between our day jobs when time and money allow. We have made a ton of progress but don't have a completion date set just yet. We are getting ready to ramp up fundraising efforts to raise the money needed to finish production and begin the editing process. We have been filming Fred over the summer in various spots doing his thing which has been great. We are talking about making some footage available to help with fundraising so keep your eye out for that. Thanks for your patience and we'll put your name on a email list for important info about the film.

Wow, I hadn't heard about this yet!

Thanks for the bump. Beckey is the most prolific climber of all time. His ability to live the dirtbag lifestyle so well for so long should impress any ski-bum or climbing bum on the planet.

You must be talking about the original skier of the impossible, Sylvain Saudan (Swiss). :tdo13:

Because, your man Bill Briggs did nothing but copy what he had read about.

Saudan started in Zermatt in 1967, with the Rothorn, Piz Corvatsch, and then Couloir Spencer in Chamonix. 1968 Chamonix Couloir Gervasutti. 1969 North Face of Aiguille de Bionassay, and Monta Rosa's Couloir Marinelli.

He did it, all alone.

He then went and started a Heli skiing operation in the Himalaya.

This guy was the one with the big visions. He started it all for ski mountaineering.

Fred, is the hard-man for climbers, in the Northwest.

Too bad Fred would probably think it was stupid. We'd have to come up with something way cooler and print it on shirts from salvation army.

I can because I skied powder with him this winter and then had dinner and beers that night. He narrated a home movie he took of the first ascent of the Northwest Buttress of Denali.
