Silverton TR, a first of many I hope:

TR Silverton Mt. 3/18-3/19
OK, so mucho snow, and gray flat light = only a few pictures. We had multiple problems with mutltiple cameras, so we only got a few shots of this epic weekend.

We arrived on Friday night to a few inches that had fallen, and went to sleep, as hard as it was, we had heard that Silverton had gotten over 4' of fresh in the last week.

We arrived at the mountain Sat. morning and there was 6" of fresh in the parking lot and it was still snowing.
Upon meeting up with our guide John:

We went up the chair, and hiked for 5 minutes to a line that went down one or two drainage skiers left from the chair. Boot to thigh deep snow had us hootin' it up.

After skiing that section, we stayed relatively close to the chair the whole day, as it seemed there was a lot of snow, and many of the areas were closed for the day.
As a note, it was dumping all day, there were a few times when we had to wait an extra few minutes to see if someone made it down a pitch, because with any gusts of wind, we couldn't see them. We got a total of 6 runs in the first day.



Saturday night, we went to the Pickel Barrel for some dinner, some pretty good eats (however, I was disappointed with their pickel).

Sunday

A quick warmup run had us realising that the 10" or so of fresh was going ot be our friend. Our second run of the day, we hiked up to Bear Claw or something like that, either way, here are two of my boys pointing out the goods:

The snow was weird in that chute, but when you found the stash, it was something to be had.

After this, we took two more runs, one of which, we're hoping that the 35mm camera got shots of (it was acting up) because it was bottomless. The area had not been open for about 3 weeks, and it was pretty much a pure northern exposure.

I'll add to this as I get more stuff in.

John is the MANG! He was my guide on two separate occasions skiing Silverton. Genuinely one of the coolest guys I've met and super humble. He unveiled tree stashes all day long.

I hope with Silverton opening sans guides that John has still got some good employment cause he deserves the best.

Awesome that you got to ride with John. I got to ride with him the only time ive been out that way, but hes by far one of the coolest guys Ive met.

As far as the tree stashes, RE-DIC-U-LOUS

We got into an area in the trees that had not been open in like 3 weeks. I was straightlining a portion and just leaning back and forth to bounce in the snow until I got nearly chest deep and realised I might get stuck on the short flat coming up.

oh, and as I mentioned earlier, might go back in two and a half weeks (have a big exam for a liscense coming up in a week and a half).
