Scarpa Denali TT from SAC - really an XT?

I picked up the Scarpa Denali TT from SAC, and the boots fit well (damn tight now, but shell fit is good, they should pack out perfectly). But the boots I got are labeled Denali XT, and the Black Diamond catalog I have shows some small differences between the XT and TT: different walk/ski modes, and stiffer plastics in the TT.

Anyone else get a Denali XT from SAC by mistake?

Also, any firsthand info on the difference between a TT and XT? If they're the same stiffness, I'm not going to worry about it. If the TT is signficantly stiffer in ski mode, then that's the one I want.

Mine were TT's from SAC. I don't know about the XT so I cannot compare stiffness but I could not imagine having anything softer then the TT....

I sent SAC an email through their site asking about this too. Backcountry.com still has 27.5s in stock, which is the size I got of the Denali XT, so hopefully I can exchange them.

I thought the Denali XT shells were purple, but maybe that was an earlier Denali.

TT's RED/Grey XTs Blue Grey

I have one pair of each.
The XT's do not ahve a full wrap arroung cuff and are slightly less stiff, but not by much. I actualy like the walk/ski switch on the XT's better. In this case XT's have a little thing that flips, the TTs have a more substantal side switch, which is harder w/ gloves. I a alittle confused how you would get a pair of XT's they haven;t been made for a few years as best as I know.

The Denali XTs I got are red, and look just like the photos of the TTs, except that the TT seems to have a 3-way switch for walk/ski/? on the heel, and the XT I got has a 2-way switch. And then there's the description about the TT being beefed up and stiffer than the XT.

Just tested the TT here, the switch is a 2 way switch.
One other idetifiing factor the tt's have 2 t's on the toe it appears to be a part of the mold. I have never heard of an XT with a wraparound cuff, or one that is red. But there certianly have been years when I have not been paying attention. My XT's are about 3 years old, my GF bought the TTs a month ago. I have no idea what happened inbetween.

I called SAC today, they are sending a replacement pair in my size of Denali TTs, along with a UPS return label for the oddly labeled Denali XTs. SAC said that the boots were drop-shipped direct from Black Diamond in Salt Lake City, which is apparently no longer going to be a distributor for Scarpa, hence the clearance sales on all the Scarpa boots through SAC.

Backcountry.com/ Tramdock/ SAC customer service = great.

just curious K - did the liners have the lace up or where they thermofit?

I had the old XT's in the red, before they went to that baby blud (which I also had) and both models had the lace up liners as the standard issue. Man those things sucked. Made it a tougher decision to tour with them over my alpine boots for the sake of simplicity when putting them on and taking them off.

Cool to see they took care of you.

The Denali XT that I received have the thermofit overlap liners -- no laces -- identical to the ones that came with the Tornado, but a different color, and the Tornado has a velcro-ed on rear shim/stiffener.

It may be that the Denali "XT" that I received was a TT with the wrong sticker applied. I'll post a comparison of the two boots when I get the replacement ones.

Update: SAC/ Backcountry.com shipped me a replacement set of Denali TTs, that were the same as the Denali "XT" boots I received before -- with a few differences:

1) The TTs had a taller thermo liner, with a different grey "pad" on the shin -- the TT "pad" was softer than the one that came with the XT. Oddly, trying on the boots side by side, the taller-but-softer tongue felt stiffer when flexing in the boot.

2) The XTs' buckles all looked machined. The TTs' buckles were the same shape, but looked cast. No functional difference. And you had to look close to tell the difference.

Other than that, both boots were the same fit, same flex, etc. The markings on the plastic parts (shell & tongues) were identical. And both boots had the "TT" molded into the toes:

I think the Denali "XTs" I received just had the wrong stickers on them. Though it is odd that the liners were a little bit different. I kept the replacement set from SAC, the ones marked Denali TT, because they felt a bit stiffer -- mostly due to the taller liner, I think.

Props to SAC/ Backcountry.com for making this exchange work smoothly. Very good people to deal with. I mostly talked with Curtis, don't know if he's on the board here.
