Buddy of mine is moving to Portland from the ice coast, serious surf jones goin on. He is looking for the local info for Portland area. Best places? Good websites, etc. Any help would be huge, thanks in advance.

Generally good surf, but it's cold, sharky and is crawling with inbred locals who have a penchant for fucking up cars w/ out of state license plates.
Punani pretty much summed up Seaside, OR but there are many other places with friendly folks - but it is cold and sharky. Have your buddy contact the local Surfrider chapter there - they'd be a big help.Quote:

It's not THAT sharky. The only problem is the beach and mountain are the same distance from Portland, which makes for some difficult decision making on cold clear days. There's also sweet riversurfing here :wink:.

Does anyone remember when the dude got chomped at Short Sands in 1992? I do. I also remember the Haystack attack.
There are a lot of sharks in Oregon, you just don't see them that much.
I would suggest Short Sands
and Pacific City for longboard
Shortboard hit Cannon Beach or Seaside cove for the Lefties
