Just a quick note:

Saw two good sized avies on Berthoud today driving home over the pass. one on Russel - too far for much detail and one just at the edge of the high trail cliffs (I think that's what its called right by the knucle), this one was CLEARLY SKIER TRIGGERED and hopefully none of the mags was the person to venture into such obviously sketch terrain. Hope he got out OKAY cause it looked like it would have been one hell of a fhuggly ride over cliffs/rocks etc.

If that was a mag that did it, well or whoever I'm sorry but damn. Okay enough criticism. Skeereed me good. I've dropped that line a bunch of times and the snow looked creamy into it.

yup, could have been either knuckle (probably not because not enough snow at the top) or north chute or maybe the choke. It was bound to happen with all the people up there. Hope nobody was caught.

It was right on the edge of the trees and the chutes where the skier went in, ie: he swung out from his buddies' tracks to get some fresh in the steeper open area (with a WICKED rollover) and that triggered it. The slide then propagated out into below the choke (ended up being ~200' wide crown ~1-3')

note: I think the danger rose is about the slickest thing ever.

This is the same Berthoud pass that SheRa skis alone, right?

I'm not too hip on all the names associated with the runs at BP, where exactly did you see this skier triggered one? I was up there yesterday and the only slide that I saw was on the north side of Current Creek on a south facing slope. It was a pretty good sized one, looked skier triggered and I'm wondering if this is the same one you guys are talking about here.

At what time did you see this lemonboy? I drove by those chutes around 3pm and they looked untracked with no avies to be seen.

After talking to some buddies, the area that slide is actually between N Chute and and Choke called zero chute.

IRLTS, there is really no north facing terrain in Current Creek. It varries from true north (Russell and the N chutes of the Hidden Knoll) to E (the Eastern exposure of the Hidden Knoll which are often called the South Chutes only because they are located to the S of the N chutes). The Postage Stamp is maybe SE facing and slides frequently. This is the face all the way to the N of the drainage which faces back at Russel, is this what you are talking about?

I know my directions are normally highly suspect but if you read what I wrote I may not be totally off :) I said on the north side of current creek on a south facing slope. So if you were heading west going up current creek it would be the slopes on your right hand side, that seems to be south facing to me. The slopes are sparsely treed look relatively low angled and the ridge runs up to a fairly big rock outcropping and then the ridge extends to the divide. It's pretty frequently skied. Anyway, about 1/2 mile east from the big rock outcropping midway down the slope there was a slide, probably about 500 feet wide that ran for about 400 feet (gross estimates as we were looking at this from the west side of this above the runs heading north down into current creek).

Nice job with the map pinner- Got one for the whole of the West side so we can get IRLTS to give us an accurate location...

I came through right at dusk (5pm) the slide was triggered by someone skiing right along the closure line in the map above and was pretty much everything right below the "3" marking the choke (but it started well below and gunner's right of the choke).

Foggy- Any details on the fate of the guy?

By the time I could see up to Russell it was too late to see anything other than that there'd been a slide.

Rev- There is only one BP :)

oh and I also saw a lone set of probable ski tracks (pretty dark) at the very very very bottom of the BIG path that closes the road there on the S side of the pass (can't remember name). Fokkin A

[dead horse beating] OK, I think I got it. The big rocks that have 2 small bowls below them are generally called The Tea Cups. The longer face to the lookers right is the 110s and the more southernly gladed exposure is frequencly called the Kiddie Porn Glades (I don't make this schit up!).

CIAC site says a dog, boarder, and skier took a 400' ride but were unhurt.

If is was on drivers left as you decended and is part of Floral that is called Fairway to Heaven (old school) or Paully's Powder Stash (new school). If is was further down on drivers right and visible from Berthoud Falls then it is South Stanley Slide which is often heli bombed by CDOT. That is the path that ran full track 3K vert over the road last year.

sure you didn't. that seems like the place, it was strange to see a slide in that area because I don't generally see them there. However, there was a definite convex bulge right at the crown. Lot's of shit going down these days.

Based on that Aerial View picture that Pinner so generously provided I would estimate that the slide that I saw was located north of the EE's in Current Creek but it's kind of tough to tell without a topo.
