Not only do they crank up the prices on natural gas, but then ask that we "conserve" due to a high demand with it being -10 outside right now and a high of 23 today. Ok, i'll drop the thermostat, but wait.....

for those of you not familiar, the city of denver or possibly some environmental agency associated with Denver puts out RED or BLUE days for fire burning, depending on factors that would effect the pollution levels in Denver. So you have the double whammy, freeze your ass of denver. No fires or bumping of the thermostat. Like there isn't enough people in the the Denver area that can afford there heating bills as it is.

That's funny. The other night the local news in SLC reported that Questar Gas had turned in a 47% increase in profit this year compared to normal. Then the proceeded to mention that gas prices went up by 38%...hmmmm, that's a funny coincidence. Questar claimed a gas shortage was behind the need to raise prices. I don't really see them rushing to put down any new wells, so I have to assume they support that gas shortage as a means to raise prices.

But I guess that's just business...right?

maybe a driving limitaion, instead of fire burning?

considering less than 5% of smog is due to wood burning stoves, i'd say WTF

This morning my house gets hit with a "rolling blackout". Of course when it happens, I do not know it is intentional. I check with the neighbors and everyone seems to be out. So to be sure things are being worked on I call numerous emergency numbers from Xcel. All of them are busy or disconnected.

I have two young children in the house and it is -12 or so at the time so I am slightly concerned (more for freezing pipes than anything else). Then the power comes back on after 30-40 minutes.

On the TV, I find out this was a rolling blackout and it should last only 15-20 minutes.

No big deal really, but with today's technology, couldn't they give us a reverse 911 call to let us know this might happen today? They seem to do it for everything else - i.e. riots on the hill, escaped perverts, etc.

just saw on the news that flights had to be cancelled because of lack of fuel? Not that Im heating my house with jet fuel but are they linked? wierd.

Our heating bills have been on the rise exponentially these past few months. We shut off the downstairs heat last night to conserve our checking account. Woke up this morning the thermostat read 38 degrees. Yeah, it was pretty cold making coffee this morning.:biggrin:
