Rahlves on capped skis?

Interesting article in the capped vs sandwich construction debate:

I know that majority of race skis are sandwich due to their constant modifications and being quicker and cheaper to produce, but Rahlves was switching between capped/sandwich skis between training/final Downhill runs

I wonder if that was just a cosmetic cap - note the Atomic logo...

Wood laminate with a edge to edge metal topsheet. Same construction as the GS skis. Reasoning behind it? I have no idea.

actually daron didn't ski his capped skis in the downhill, but bode did. after bode ran and didn't come in first, daron decided not to run the new skis even though bode said that they were fast and it was more pilot error. bode was on capped skis for his 1st place in the dh portion of that fateful combined.

Correct. I think Daron should have stayed on the new ski's because really I think Bode blew his run on that last jump/turn where the camera angle would switch to the finish line. He stood up and didn't tuck like other skiers did, so he caught ALOT of air on his body, which I think can explain that 7 tenths.

Also, I think Bode stuck with the caps in the combined and they worked there...

I don't wish I could own the same skis they do - I wish I could ski like they do.
